In spite of everything, it feels like the year has flown by. We even saw a Christmas advert over the weekend, and it’s not even Halloween yet!
Talking of which, are you going to take advantage of the easing of travel restrictions to jet off to warmer sunnier climes this half term?
If you are, the lovely ladies at Amelie’s Follies have put together a list of essentials to pack with you to enjoy your stay by the beach/pool.
First, you will need to get there. Depending on how far you are travelling, you might find yourself leaving on a cold, grey, wet day to land in beautifully warm and sunny weather. To travel in style and also comfort, we have curated for you a selection of 100% merino wool garments made in the UK that can be mixed and matched with our 100% silk homeware range. Those can easily be layered so you can peel off as soon as you land.
We have both wide-leg trousers and cuffed ones, V neck sweaters that can be matched to the trousers or layered over a long silk negligee. The possibilities are endless. Remember, a silk negligee is just a silk dress, sometimes with lace trims, but not always. It is up to you to accessorise it to make it work from night to day. Team with a fluffy jumper for cooler days, or a crisp white shirt tied around the waist for a stroll down the market.
Don’t forget to pack all that summer gear you may not have had a chance to wear this year if you haven’t been away yet. We were promised a heatwave, but it never materialised. So, if like us, some of your lighter skimpier outfits didn’t come out, now is the time. We recommend packing the following: a maxi dress (yes, even if you are a bit shorter) as they are easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion, and easy to throw on Kaftan (with some leggings if you feel the world is not ready for your legs just yet) that can be worn over your swimwear or just to go down for breakfast if you are in a hotel, and a wrap. Most wraps (or sarongs) are made of light fabrics which can easily double up as evening shawls or scarves if the weather turns a bit chilly. They also take little space in your case and weigh next to nothing.
To go under all those lovely skimpy outfits, don’t forget to pack a strapless, or if you don’t like them, what about packing some bras with pretty straps? There is a multitude of colours and options out there to choose from, just get yourself fitted and you will never have to be worried about your bra straps showing ever again.
Of course, you could also just show off your bikini (or swimsuit) straps instead. If you haven’t worn swimwear for a while (like a lot of us), we would recommend you take the time to try on all that you have and decide what is still good and what has seen better days. Lycra is a funny thing and it doesn’t like to be ignored. It is not unusual for swimwear to sit in a draw for a few months then to be taken out and when you try it on, the lycra just cracks…it doesn’t spring back anymore. Often it is because your garment is too old but it can also happen if the garment wasn’t cleaned/dried properly before being put away. Don’t worry, we have swimwear all year round. We can help you find your new favourite poolside outfit.
Finally, and this is often neglected, pack some nice nightwear. If you are staying in a hotel, there is room service, if you are sharing a villa with some friends, you don’t want to have to get dressed first thing in the morning just so you can have your cup of tea and not feel like everything is ‘hanging out’. We have new ranges of nightwear to suits all your needs. From shorts sets to Long PJs but also nighties with sleeves and robes that pack small. Leave the old t-shirt at home, be a stylish sleeper. You can always quickly pop a bra underneath your nighty or PJs if you feel you need the extra support when in good company; we have a small selection of non-wired bras you could even sleep in.
