Cartwheel to summer camp, live music and family fun: Your What’s On guide from NappyValleyNet

Last Updated on : 30th July 2015

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

Welcome to your weekly What’s On activity guide from NappyValleyNet!

I spotted a ‘white van man’ eating a Mr Whippy with double flake as he drove past me in the sunshine the other day.  It reminded of a time, way back, when I first heard the music announcing the arrival of the ice cream van in the street and asked what it was.  I was told they play the music to encourage all the little children to come over to buy their favourite.  We waited.  Moments later, a bunch of burly builders came rushing along, licking their lips and asking for two flakes in their Mr Whippy.  Summer’s not just for the children!  So in between ice cream treats for you and them, keep up to speed with what’s going on by checking into our calendar regularly.  Keep posting too with your events, classes, fairs and more by simply following the little green button. Just the one flake for me, please…(click here)

House hunting?  If you’re on the move, a great place to keep your eye out for the perfect pad is on our property pages, which we bring to you with PrimeLocation and four local estate agents.  We have all the usual search criteria plus the quite handy one of school catchment areas, just in case schools might be of interest…(click here)

Take a look at these four properties from our Preferred Property Partners this week

Still got the odd day you need to fill with fun for the children?  Try this lot for size.

The Little Gym Summer Camps continue next week when Super Kids will be challenged to find the Dragon’s Lair on a ‘Slumber Party’!  They can wear their pyjamas to this party adventure and will have a blast playing games, taking on challenges and showing off their hip hop dancing skills.  For children aged 3 up to 8, it sounds fab and there’s a different theme each week! …click here for more details

Fit4Kidz still have some availability on their Wandsworth Common summer camps.  You can do full days or just the morning or afternoon sessions and they’ll play football, tag rugby, ultimate frisbee and tennis in the great outdoors, topped and tailed with stretches and yoga.  Sounds like all round brilliant exercise! …click here for more details

Summer Fairy School is on!  Fairy Blossom will lead a magical workshop for those aged 2 and up at St Barnabas next week, with dancing, games and lessons in how to act like a real flower fairy, elf or wizard!  They’ll make their own butterfly wand and sprinkle it with fairy dust before it’s time to flit home – sweet! …click here for more details

Do yours love life on wheels? ZebraSkate holds regular classes at the Latchmere and has a summer camp going-on over the river in Kensington Gardens.  With only 8 children per class, they’ll really learn a thing or two about how to control and improve on their technique, be it on rollerblades or skateboards.  They might even play Rollersoccer…definitely leave this one to the children! …click here for more details

Clapham’s Omnibus Actors Alive workshop is running next week for children aged 8 to 12.  They’ll be putting together a brand new play inspired by the themes of George Orwell’s classic, 1984.  From set design, costumes and posters to acting and directing, they’ll have a fully hands-on experience of working on a piece of theatre. …click here for more details

Summer culture for all ages and virtually on your doorstep!

This sounds brilliant!  An hour-long promenading version of the Wind in the Willows set in Streatham Rookery.  Witty, entertaining and contemporary, it sounds like it’ll really capture little ones’ imaginations and it’s only an hour long – perfect! …click here for more details

Go along to Summer Live Music from Route 88 in the revamped bar and outside space at Omnibus, bang in the middle of Clapham Old Town.  Every Friday and Saturday night during the summer you can go along, order a cool drink or two, kick back and enjoy the tunes.  I can feel the summer vibes from here……click here for more details

Change of scene required?  Here’s something a bit different for those aged 8 to 13 in Notting Hill tomorrow.  There’s a free film screening at The Gate cinema to help with a new primetime series, ‘Back in Time for the Weekend’.  Children will watch films from yesteryear  to help recreate a 1950s Saturday cinema club scene.  Sounds fab! …click here for more details

Wandsworth Museum has plenty of workshops for children going on throughout the summer at various locations.  This one at the Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park will take you on a journey to explore the gardens and see what’s growing, before getting stuck in to all things creative and arty. It’s free but you must book in advance …click here for more details

It’s always great to have a few weekend tricks up your sleeve.  Maybe for all of you together, or maybe just for you.

This sounds like brilliant family fun.  There’s a free craft workshop and den building session on Sunday as part of the Tooting Field Days.  Meet at Sprout Arts and build a 4-star bug hotel for all the creepie crawlies in your garden, then head to Tooting Graveney Common and learn how to build a survival shelter from branches and leaves.  Famous Five, eat your hearts out! …click here for more details

Inspired by Wimbledon but only just managed to unearth and dust off your racket?  Join in on the Rusty Racket Workshop at King George’s Park this Sunday.  Three hours of top tips to get you back in the swing.  It might be just the incentive you need to get back in those tram lines and work those muscles! …click here for more details

It’s RideLondon FreeCycle this weekend and if you haven’t already signed up, you still can!  Saturday offers a fab opportunity to cycle with the family on traffic-free roads past iconic landmarks in our great city, and there’s lots of entertainment along the route from music zones and bands on bikes to Penny Farthings and stilt bicycles. Sunday sees the ‘elite’ take to the roads – a great spectacle but don’t forget the road closures! …click here for more details

Feeling bereft after an early summer chock-full with summer fetes, festivals and street parties?  Never fear, September will be here soon enough and with it come two of the great neighbourhood events, so here are the dates for your diary.

The St. John’s Hill Festival is on Sunday 13th September when the pavements will be lined with stalls and the bouncy castle will be back for children to while away some uplifting time.  The FishClub will be running their ‘Great Golden Goldfish Gala’, so you place your bets on the best looking fins if you can find the time between sampling a mouthful of this and a taste of that from the vast array of foodie treats on offer. …click here for more details

And the Bellevue Road Summer Fair is on Sunday 20th September with stalls lining the street overlooking Wandsworth Common and a hog roast, a bouncy castle and a stage with live song and dance.  Of course, it wouldn’t be the same without the annual Dog Show, this year with guest judge Nicky Campbell.  Will yours win the dog agility test or maybe you’re tempted to enter the ‘Dog lookalike’ contest!  More silverware for the display cabinet…!?  …click here for more details

That’s it for this week.  Whatever you do, let the summer fun roll…

Love,

Annabel & the NappyValleyNet team x
