There is a brilliant local company called Amicable that can facilitate your divorce without lawyers - I highly recommend them.

Also, if you have children, a local mum set up Frolo - a brilliant app, community and resource for single parents. It’s been invaluable to me and I’ve met lots of lovely local parents in the same situation.

You can apply for a divorce online via government website and you will need to do a financial consent order and if relevant agree child maintenance. Forms A and form D81 also available from gov dot uk

There are lots of case studies available from judiciary which can help as they show how the courts are advised to deal with different scenarios.

So I managed to do it all without Paying for mediation and /or solicitors (except for getting help with wording the consent order once we’d agreed everything, then it’s just a rubber stamp exercise from the courts.

Lots of reading and form filling but much cheaper. You do have to be able to agree numbers and maintenance with your ex, which took me 6 months of emails and some compromise and patience but we got there in the end!

Im at the last stage of my divorce process, which was all completed by myself. All relevant forms can be downloaded at the gov.uk website and there are plenty of UK websites to help with tips and advice. I made a few mistakes in the beginning so the forms were returned to me to be adjusted or re-done.
The courts also are very helpful and understanding and you can call them for advice on which forms to use and how to fill them in. The only thing I paid for was the swearing statement at a certified solicitors which was £10 and a Decree Absolute search £75.
It did take quite long as the courts are backlogged with cases but it has been hassle free and smooth. I had to provide proof of my not knowing where he was at the time. I let go of any financials.

The Divorce Surgery (Sam Woodham) is fantastic - one barrister advises both parties on how to share their assets in a way the court would approve. Minimal lawyering, and lots of emphasis on working it out together. 

We used mediation although I had a solicitor at the end just to push things through. It was excellent but financially there has to be absolute trust and complete transparency, no-one squirrelling any money away or not fully disclosing. Once the Court Order has been agreed that’s basically it (unless you want more hassle).
But it meant for a much much cheaper divorce, no acrimony or lasting animosity. We had no lawyers up against each other, and hurray, no big lawyers’ bills. I really would recommend it.

Hi - try mediation. It’s a tried and tested process and if you are unable to agree you can still use lawyers. Cressida Burnet is local accredited mediator, I would give her a call to find out more.  A friend just used a mediation for a large part of his divorce and then a solicitor at the end when most bits had been agreed as opposed to a divorce lawyer for everything to avoid the huge costs.
