Ps. I Also questioned why the Nightingale wasn’t being used and was told it was because they don’t have enough staff :(

People are being ignorant if they think COVID isn’t real. I know many people who didn’t get it first time round and following the same procedure but have caught it this time around so it seems to be more easily transmitted. One couple who have been shielding & having their shopping delivered have it now. The wife was take to C&W hosp due to breathing problems as St.G’s is full!
We know nurses & doctors who are struggling to cope but not giving up. It’s difficult all round & we should be realistic. No need to scaremonger but people are just not taking it seriously until it affects them or a loved one :(

Ratski - there was nothing slanderous in my post. I was using “you”and “your” in the general sense, not referring to you specifically. There are plenty of conspiracy theories about Covid doing the rounds. The OP seemed to be suggesting that the fact the Nightingale Hospital in London has closed down suggests that there is something we are not being told about the disease and this links with the fake news that is being posted about empty hospital wards. You may decide it’s not a conspiracy theory but it’s damaging and as we’ve seen by the demonstrations by maskless Covidiots around the world demanding an end to lockdowns, these posts have dangerous consequences. Only a few days ago there was a bunch of maskless idiots protesting outside St Thomas’s hospital. Today’s papers are reporting that doctors are debunking all the hoax claims that hospital wards are empty. By quoting those statistics (which I question but that’s beside the point) you seem to be suggesting that Covid is not a serious disease. That probably says enough but if denying Covid is the new “climate denial” then you’re absolutely right - because both Covid and climate change are real.

I have seen this twice now on here and another national forum I browse in the last week.

To request that only ‘qualified’ people can now post on the internet. George Orwell would be proud of you.

There's free speech and then there's sinister conspiracy theories. The thing is, if you believe that the moon landings were faked or that the US government were behind 9/11 then you're an idiot but it doesn't really matter much to the rest of us. If you believe that Covid is a hoax, mask-wearing is a form of social control and that the vaccination is actually to inject us with some sort of mind-control drug (or whatever) then you might not wear a mask, you might not socially distance, you might not care about infecting other people and other people might die. So your post saying that the pandemic is a hoax could actually kill people. And it just means the wretched pandemic goes on longer, and we have to have more controls on our lives. So yes, sometimes a bit of removal of fake news is necessary for the benefit of society, just as you have to wear a seat-belt and you're not allowed to smoke in a restaurant.

No one has even mentioned any conspiracy theories on this thread other than Dudettes wild and slanderous allegations. The only slightly controversial posts question the narrative that we are relentlessly bombarded with from the media 24/7.

It’s a perfectly normal thing for people who have had their lives put on hold for a virus that 99% will survive, 85% of those with no symptoms at all and one that you need a test for most to know we have even had it.

What fuels the conspiracy theories is people demanding censure and control of covid topics when none is required. These methods now been used by some to silence debate have been used time and time again when discussing other controversial topics in the past. Questioning covid is the new ‘bigoted women’ or ‘climate denier’.

OK - then complete idiots who deny there is a problem should be allowed to be called out

Thanks Chorister. I will have a look at how that might work best.

ally30_1998 - completely support you.  In a national health emergency we simply have to accept some restrictions on eg free speech that in other circumstances we wouldn't.  And if we really want to do more for NHS staff than clap on our doorsteps, then this is our chance.  Personally (and I'm in the over 70s group) I think all NHS clinical staff of any age should be first in line for vaccination.  After that vaccinate others.  They have been under the cosh now for nearly a year.

Annabel (admin) - I'm not sure how you would do it, but how about putting together some sort of small moderation panel of informed, qualified people to review and if necessary take down comments on a few specific subjects?

Unfortunately misinformation is very prevalent on many platforms and a huge slap in the face for those working on Covid wards and people who've lost loved ones.

Thank you.
I’ve literally only reported a couple. Plus, where do you draw the line between dangerous misinformation and necessary freedom on speech?
I was just reading and sighing but have decided to reply when I see this kind of thing as it’s probably better than doing nothing.

I have reported a few. Nothing seems to be done. It’s made me consider my membership as lack of effective moderation is reducing the appeal of this site after 11 years as a member.
Hi
Thank you for the note - I'll look into this now - we've had a few emails issues which means I'm aware we have missed some notifications but we certainly shouldn't have missed many.

Thanks again and really happy to speak if that is easier (annabel@nappyvalleynet.com)

Worrying posts here. Hospitals in London are in crisis mode due to COVID. It’s becoming increasingly grim and we are not even at height of cases yet. My son has gone in to work today, being the only person in his department as everyone else has either left or is ill/in isolation. There are normally four of them. He isn’t even clinic facing.
Be thankful for the people willing to work in COVID wards, it’s not a nice environment being head to toe in PPE all day without a break to drink or go to the loo as they are so stretched.
The Excel Nightingale is reopen and staff and being redeployed all across the NHS again - most of them don’t want to be anywhere near COVID wards, most of them haven’t had a vaccination and the lucky ones have now been told they will have to wait for their booster dose.
Just because some staff are having a ‘good war’ it doesn’t mean the majority are. I try not to be judgemental but am shocked at the amount of unhelpful postings that have appeared on here recently.
