I've only ever hailed a black cab off the street, is there a number I can call them to book when I go into labour? How long do they usually take to get to you?

There's two apps for that now in London. MyTaxi and Gett. Both only have Black Cabs and you can order with the app on your phone.

The rates are either by the meter, or given fixed when you book.

PM me if you want a referral code, and we both get money off the next cab ride!

I would also advise 9000 cars, they are great, never late and will kindly take you whereever you need to! I say kindly because I have never seen their drivers be rude

(Ah sorry - ignore my ignorance above! Have just realised they have their own app. I'll give that a go :))

One local woman actually gave birth (unexpectedly) in a black cab. And the driver wouldn't accept any payment for the journey, and then returned to the hospital to bring her and the new baby home again.
So I recommend a black cab.

Yes please don’t call an ambulance! How very irresponsible for someone at the hospital to suggest that. They’re for emergencies only (obviously if your baby is coming thick and fast then that IS an emergency but hopefully you’ll avoid that). I think black cabs are probably your best bet as you have lots of room to stretch out. Ask them to go easy over the road bumps!

Hi there, we use locally based Keens Cars regularly and would recommend.  We also occasionally use Addison Lee (again recommended) - as the earlier poster suggested, I'd call first and explain your situation and I'm sure they will advise.  Hope all goes well.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into all suggested options
@the parsley song - I didn't think you could call an ambulance either (surely if you could they'd all be tied up with pregnant women) - unless obviously it's an emergency! I might call up Black Cabs and see if they'll take you as well (just worried about it being a bit hit and miss, then calling on the day and being refused).

We phoned for a London black cab to get from Balham to St Thomas and this was about 1am. He was brilliant - tried to distract me by telling us all about his kids. I was so worried about how we were going to get there but it was really fine. When we got there the ambulance guys said that I should have just phoned for an ambulance, but I didn't think that was allowed! Good luck!

9000 cars in Balham are pretty reliable.

Not the prettiest cars but friendly and reliable.

good luck!

Hi

I would call all your local cab services and explain to them first. Then if they agree and say it's fine, keep their details until when it's needed. Gives them a heads up as well !

Mini cab company recommendations - to take a woman in labour to hospital

Hi everyone Am wondering if somebody can recommend a good mini cab company who will take a pregnant woman in labour to the hospital?I’ve been told that Ubers can refuse to take a woman in labour and the best bet is to arrange with a mini cab company. Any help appreciated!
