The colour is greener . Artificial grass is not green in any other sense, and is in every way totally anti any contribution you could be making to the environment.
Grass produces oxygen and absorbs Co2 . You and your families are breathing it, why not, if you are lucky enough to have a garden, use it for your own and common good.
Grass adds nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil. Harvest it and you can compost it along with your household veg waste and grow your borders without adding chemical feeds. Healthy plants.
Grass provides home for insects, bugs and worms, your children love them or even if they don’t they need to know about them. Give them a microscope and they will be fascinated. Do you like birds? Guess what they eat? And these crawly things are in real grass, so by using the artificial you are starving them. Nappy Valley has a great big football pitch provided by the two commons , do you need another in your garden. grass seed is cheap, turf is easy to lay if it needs replacing. electric mowers are easy to use. Or try paving stones with plants inbetween . Or a patch of wild flowers. There is a theory that mud is good for children’s health in building up immunity and resistance to allergy
Please for your children’s sake,their education and our future environment, consider how much you will be contributing to the plastic mountain , the waste in production of artificial grass, and don’t sanitise your gardens. Raking is a great exercise for strengthening stomach muscles and cheaper than the gym

I’ve seen both Knightsbridge (mainly on my Chelsea projects) and Kensington. Both looked really good, can’t comment on the Mayfair as I’ve never seen it on a big enough area. Have you received samples? I reckon the biggest difference is in how it feels to walk on as they all look quite similar.

As a project manager for a design & build company in SW London I second the recommendations for Easigrass. Used them on a number of projects and their product looks great, also over time.

I also agree that a shockpad is not necessary if your base is well prepared. (Also not recommended if you have pets!)

We have Easigrass - it was supplied and fitted by a general gardening firm we used (more than one company said they would supply it for us so you definitely don't have to get it from them directly). For various reasons I wouldn't recommend the firm we used but the grass itself is great and we're really pleased with it. Looks great, seems to be wearing well and has all the positives we hoped (no maintenance, no mess, no lawn mower to store!).

People are so sniffy about artificial grass but we love ours. Firstly it looks fab all year round. Secondly you don't have to maintain it - zero, zip, nada work. Thirdly the kids can run around on it in the middle of winter. And lastly, on those sunny spring days when there's still a bit of a chill in the air, the grass soaks up the warmth - you can lie on it and it's lovely and toasty! The only downside is it can get very hot in the summer sun so you need shoes to walk on it (oh and your sniffy friends refer to it as 'astroturf' which is really annoying). There are lots of good companies out there - I agree that you should go for the best quality you can afford.

We are currently debating artficial grass. We just don't use our garden in winter because it's so wet and muddy most of the time.

Who do you use? Which grass? And any regrets?
I need to convince my husband artificial grass is the way to go.

Do NOT waste money on shock membranes. Hard as rock and just another "product" they try to sell. But DO select high bristle grass such as Mayfair collection from Easygrass to avoid disappointment.

Hi, we have used Easigrass on several jobs for clients and they have always been very professional and excellent quality product. It is quite a specialist job (for example, you need a level/stable sub-structure laid in advance, supply and fit of shock mats, infill with silica, etc). Two approaches.

You can ask a "normal" gardening company to put it down for you. This is what we did and it worked really really well. They're looking at the garden as a whole and not just the grass element so it always seem to be more sympathetic, if that makes sense.

Or you can use a specialist. Grassify and Easigrass and the two I've heard good things about but I'd probably go down the route of a normal garden person, if I were you.

Also do go for the upmarket grass, it looks amazing, don't go cheap othewise it looks like a greengrocers fruit display!
