Thank you all for your responses. We are indeed comparing with having him tutored for the whole year; thanks Lucinda for your offer, we’ve already spoken to someone who seems great, now it’s more a question of choosing the best format for him.

We were very happy with Collingham for our child's retakes, as were several friends including one family whose son took some new, additional A levels rather than retakes, so it works for both.  We found the head and teaching staff to be really excellent and very understanding of our child's individual needs - they even found he had a learning difficulty, which had not been spotted during five years at boarding school - the full assessment and 'diagnosis' he then had made a huge difference to his subsequent academic performance.  Just to clarify, although it is a sixth form college in the sense that some pupils go there to take their A levels for the first time (not just retakes or additional subjects), it is not a state sixth form college - definitely fee-paying and, as has been said, fees are chargeable per subject.

Hi,

I am a language tutor however I have a vast tutoring network of tutors who homeschool and prepare children for national exams privately. If you'd consider this an option then I'd be delighted to put you in touch with someone to see if they could homeschool and prepare your son for his further maths A-level in summer 2025.

With my very best wishes,

We have a number of friends who are very happy with Collingham College for retakes or a levels in a year (it is also a regular 6 form college).

Is he looking for a school/college experience or just to boost the grade? Most of the private sixth form colleges in central London (try MPW, DLD, David Game) charge per A level so if he’s only doing one wouldn’t be so expensive. Or an adult/FE college or evening class could be an option.
If he just wants to boost the grade maybe sessions with a tutor and entering the exam as a private candidate next year would give him more flexibility to do other things - work, work experience, some travel - rather than being tied to term times and a timetable dotted through the week.

I can think of two options that I know of, MPW in Kensington - private and expensive and Westminster Kingsway in KIngs Cross, I think, which is a state and base. I hope that your son gets sorted!

Just bumping this up in case anyone has got any recommendation!
We’ve seen a couple of private schools in central London but any personal experience, or names of other schools, would be helpful!
Many thanks

Six form accepting student for 1 A-level only?

Hi everyone
My son took his A-levels this year but didn’t get the results he needed for his first choice university. He is considering taking an additional A level subject next year and reapplying.
Does anyone know of a Six form that would accept him to study only 1 subject (Further Maths)?
Many thanks
