What is Mindful art?

Mindfulness is a simple and very powerful practice that enables us to train our attention. It’s simple in that it’s really just about paying attention to what’s happening here and now (i.e. sensations, thoughts, and emotions) in a non-judgemental way. Mindful art utilises art materials to help people explore and understand their thoughts and emotions in a unique way. Through the use of different art materials, you are encouraged to maintain your focus on the interaction between yourself & art.The idea behind this is to use art as an alternative way of communicating with others, but primarily with yourself. To enable you to give voice to your unidentified thoughts and worries and finally to help you find the strength and strategies to make sense of your life.  Who can benefit from Mindful art?Everyone can benefit, regardless of their artistic skills or past experiences.Anyone who is keen to explore alternative ways of reconnecting the body and mind.No artistic skills are required but keeping an open mind and respecting yourself & others is vital to the work we do.
Why Mindful art?-To develop a sense of acceptance and belonging.- To get away from modern life & stress.-To be aware of your thoughts and feelings as they happen moment to moment.- To slow down, pay attention, make meaning and feel inspired.- To distress and reconnect mind & body.-To develop a sense of “being visible” in the world as you make your mark on the paper. Refreshments, materials and a sketchbook will be provided.
