Re: BMW on fire battersea Rise

There seem to be quite a few news items about cars bursting into flames over the last few months.  Has anyone noticed this?  Is it because the press are reporting it more often or that it is happening more often and, if so, why?

Re: How Can anyone vote Tory next week?

Tory Wandsworth is very selective about where it gives service. My street rarely gets cleaned and I am constantly picking up rubbish in the road and on the open space opposite - which never gets cleaned - just mown occasionally.  We are a cul de sac and, therefore, out of the public eye.  However si...

Re: Clapham Common is not a rubbish tip.

It took me 10 years to get Wandsworth Council to put rubbish bins in the middle of the open space opposite my house.  Although there is still rubbish left sometimes in the turning bay, the green is very much cleaner.  I was trying to attach a photo of the 10 large bags of rubbish I collected from th...

Re: Can I pay my nanny in cash

Workinggirl:  Pay up - treat your nanny with respect.  Why should she lose the benefits because you are selfish.  I am retired and on a pension.  I am still paying tax and seriously object to my taxes going to support anything like this.  As a parent, you will be making much more use of my taxes tha...

Re: Help Make Clapham Common Safe

To those so quick to blame Sadiq Khan for everything, please check your facts.  The Mayor funds 24.8% of the net cost of the Met, with Home Office/Government funding 75.2%
So, if you think the Met is not getting enough money, perhaps you should be blaming the Government.

Re: Help Make Clapham Common Safe

Well said, dimelda.  One of the joys of parts of Clapham Common (and others) is that there are "secret" areas for animals and birds to hide in.  On another point: Why does Lambeth maintain Clapham Common.  Does Wandsworth pay them to do their bit or is Wandsworth in receipt of charity in i...

Re: Is a new iphone too much for a 10 year old for Xmas?

Schools at Christmas need consideration, particularly in primary.  Definitely you should not get this.  What is more, you need to work out why your son want one.  Is he being bullied at school or does he want to show off at school?  It is possible that there is someone at school who has been boastin...

Re: Examples of crimes in our local shopping areas

I am not sure whether it is the result of cuts in police numbers or the priorities of the police, but I see no police in my area.  Years ago we regularly saw our community support officer walking around.  The last time I saw any police, other than those screaming around in cars, was a couple standin...

Re: General Election - what do we think for Battersea?

Ratski: so your extremely intelligent contribution to the discussion is personal, inaccurate abuse! - were you trained by Jane Ellison, our previous MP, who was very eager to accuse people of things without any evidence to support it.  Which of Marsha's policies do you disagree with?

Re: Toast rack neighbours scrap over 12-inch land grab

It may be first world problems but the difference for the neighbours is whether you can take things from the back of your house to the road or not and intrusion of rights.  Many years ago I went through a similar thing when my neighbours wanted to fence off their land, preventing my access to the ro...

Re: Far fewer pupils are being excluded from schools in Wandsworth and here's why

2009Kat: you are absolutely right.  The way that schools are being judged by raw exam results, rather than the value added (ie progress made) is creating a very unhealthy climate in which children (and they are children) are being denied an education because their results will make the school look a...

Re: Far fewer pupils are being excluded from schools in Wandsworth and here's why

What is more worrying is, not the number of children who are being excluded from schools, but the number who have been "off rolled".  There are around 20,000 children of school age nationally who are not recorded as being registered at any legal educational establishment, nor home tutored,...

Re: Puppy training and puppy/dog sitters in the Southfields area

I support the recommendation of Winky Spiers.  I don't have a dog but she has regularly brought her class through my area and have seen her over the years at work on Wandsworth Common and know how good she is.
