Re: 16 yrs old Christmas present

I don’t know if you only want to get one book, but Backstory, the independent bookshop in Balham, does a year long subscription where they choose books for the person. I think you fill out a whole form about what you like and they choose the books and you get one a month. My husband bought it for ou...

Re: Edward James or Charlotte Cave in Balham?

I've bee seeing Christian at Edward James Balham for colour for years (actually he used to be at the Northcote location). He's lovely and I think he does an amazing job with colour. I can't recommend him enough.

Re: Built in wardrobes?

Funnily enough the man who built my cupboards (and my friend's) is here now adding some dividers to the drawers. I highly recommend Ian, I've now been using him for a few years. You can check his work out at @lawlessproperty on Insta.

Re: Feathers Ball - to go or not to go?!

I was really against it when it was first brought up to me (sounded like a recipe for "Cruel Intentions"), but some of the other mums convinced me. It was cute, the girls had fun, especially the prep before. It was very well organized from what I saw and policed really well. The kids had t...

Re: Advice on how to stop my dog going to loo inside the house!

Has there been any stress? Fireworks or foxes seemed to trigger my girl. And of course, once they go on your carpet (it's always the carpet...) the smell is there and they are like, "Oh, this is a good spot." Nothing really gets the smell out, that said, the latest product I bought has wor...

Re: Hand sanitizers for children

We've had good luck with the Neal's Yard spray. It smells nice too. Lasts long too. (The bottle).

Lost keyring with wedding band!

I know this is a longshot, but My husband went on a bike ride Sunday, (30 August) from Richmond to Windsor and back and the little black bag that holds the bike repair things was either stolen or lost. Inside were his key ring, which had a brown leather tag as well as a little silver "Me too&qu...

Re: 11YO's birthday party. Looking to have a tea party catered at home.

Thanks all,

We actually had her (I think) 5th birthday party at Betty Blythe was fantastic. I think I spoke with Claire as well. Still trying to figure out logistics.

Appreciate the help.

11YO's birthday party. Looking to have a tea party catered at home.

Since we're still somewhat stuck inside we've told my daughter she can (potentially) have a tea party in the garden for her birthday for a few friends. (Party will be in July). Does anyone know of a company that would cater that - cakes, sandwiches etc. (Possibly might need tables so they can SD pro...

Re: Recent re-openings of shops, cafes, restaurants and small businesses

Ciullosteria, our favourite restaurant at 31 Balham High Road, is doing takeaways and have a little shop of Italian goodies for sale. Although, I kind of wish my husband would stop bringing home bags and rolls of biscuits, as they are too good to eat rationally! Please support them, we are so hoping...

Re: Do children 5-10 travel free on South Western and Southern Rail London routes? (5-10 zip Oyster photocards)

My daughter uses the Zip card, while they don't really enforce it (if you forget it, the staff at the rail stations are totally fine). I always found it easier to have it, plus you can use it on all other transport. It's especially good as they get a little older and can go through the gates themsel...
