Re: Honest feedback on Balham for a family?

May I ask what other areas you considered before deciding for Balham? Earlsfield which is lovely but the transport isn't as good How about council-subsidised gyms or swimming pools? As far as council facilities: Pool at Balham is small but pleasant. They've squash courts and a gym too. Tooting (whi...

Re: Honest feedback on Balham for a family?

I love it but will try to be unbiased :-) 1. Parks and spaces: I love our green spaces them and have spent days of my life on the Commons. Not sure if there are specific things missing that you want from green spaces but I'd have thought these were a big advantage over other areas so curious whats l...

Re: Leasehold flat - loft not demised - advice please!

Agree! I guess everyone is looking to make the most amount of money as is reasonable out of the situation! I think that was the bit that caught my friend out - she didn't expect the downstairs flat owner to be quite so hard nosed about it but his view was that she'd be adding bedrooms and bathrooms ...

Re: Leasehold flat - loft not demised - advice please!

Hi I had a friend to did this. It was a while ago but... The landlord was ok but it was the downstairs flat which was the nightmare. According to the lease details they owned half the loft (!) - I understand that's not uncommon as it's a common part of the building. My friend has assumed that they w...

Re: Open day "rules"?

Hi Agree - no obvious do's and don'ts. Questions I found useful: 1. after school clubs 2. leavers destinations (if appropriate) 3. sports and where they play (some schools have long trips to play hockey for example and others don't play football) 4. drama/music 5. trips and cost of trips 6. discipli...

Re: Registry for baby shower?

I know mums-to-be do do this but personally I find it really difficult to justify. My concerns stem from the fact that once you've been invited then it's really really hard NOT to buy a gift from the registry and then price points/brands etc are totally out of the givers control. I know the logical ...

Re: Do you know how much your partner earns?

Hi We were actually talking about a friend who is getting divorced and her husband has his own company and the discussion was about how hard our friend is finding it to discover how much money they have. It's hidden in the firm. I then said something like "yes it must be really hard if your par...

Do you know how much your partner earns?

Hi Everyone I was out for drinks last night and talk turned to money and husbands (this is not just a question about husbands though). I was stunned to find a friend of mine doesn't know how much her husband earns. She thought this was perfectly normal and although she has a rough idea (they have se...
