Re: Au pair cost

£175 to £200 for 20 to 25 hours a week with right to work in UK e.g UK passport, tier 5 visa etc.

Those that accept less usually don't have the right to work. Some people are happy to take that risk, others aren't.

Re: Cost of converting large cellar v digging basement

The cost of digging is the most expensive part 10+ years ago, we converted our cellar into a utility room and it cost maybe £10k to tank it, plaster, tile etc without any digging. It would have been about 10x as much to dig out. Prices have no doubt changed. But it was the digging and removal of soi...

Re: 5pm teen mugging on Balham High Road

Sadly there have been quite a large number of these muggings recently. Group of lads with black balaclava/ masks targeting other boys for the most part. Ritherdon road, Drakefield Road, Streathbourne road, High Road. The police are aware and have stepped up patrols. (I know of maybe 10 ish). I am on...

Re: Graveney Secondary - Extension/middle stream

Agreed. They very much focus on the individual child and so each child is given a level to work towards based on SATs and tests in the first week or so. These levels are changed and children do move between classes (sets). The levels are specific to each subject. I was surprised at how much the leve...

Re: Are children from state schools and private schools treated the same in the 11+?

A couple of local private schools told me that they took state Vs private into account - in both exam pass mark and interview.

Simply loft - warranty issue

Hi! Around 5 years ago we did our loft conversion with Simply Loft. Since then, I had a great relationship with them - our photos are on their website, we gave them lots of references and people visited our house to look at our loft etc. I was super pleased. However, we now have a problem with our l...

Re: in laws offering to pay for son not daughter schools fees

My husband's grandma gave my son an amount of money when he was born but not my daughter for similar reasons to above. My mother in law said she would make it right out of subsequent inheritance but never did. So I evened it up from our savings and told my daughter it came from Great Grandma. I stil...

Re: Northern line morning woes / Conservatives campaign / Massive rant!!!

After 9 things are calming down, by 9.30 things are pretty good. You won't get a seat at either time, unless you are very lucky, but from 9am should get on a tube pretty much straight away - at worse waiting for the second one on the platform. Only if there were delays earlier in the morning will yo...

Discrimination at school?

My child goes to an academy (state ) school. To encourage attendence, those with 100 percent get a reward - eg a badge, taken out for a picnic or icecream. My child has a medical condition which means they need the odd full day in hospital or can't attend school - despite being well themselves - bec...

Re: How to escalate a complaint against the Council? Councillors? Money claim? (overcharged for parking permit)

Just to say - I have had the same. Lost money due to the switch over to the new parking system. Managed to eventually speak to two people on the phone, both told me to email and then silence despite repeated emails. I assume that parking has now been outsourced and that over charging is a way to mak...

Au pair needed from August

Our lovely au pair is home sick and returning home at end July. So we are looking for a new au pair to help look after our two kids in Balham.

If anyone knows of anyone who might be interested then please let me know. Thanks.

(We definitely need an au pair - not a nanny - thanks)
