Re: Recommendations for Orthodontist / any feedback on Battersea Rise Orthodontist Practice

We have been very pleased with Wimbledon Orthodontists, helpful, flexible and have done a great job with our eldest’s teeth. As the previous poster identified, you end up having to go very regularly, so somewhere easy to get to is a must (we live in Streatham so Wimbledon is relatively easy for us).

Re: Taxi service for children

Hi. Not sure if it helps, but we just use Uber. I order the cab on my phone so I can see the driver details and follow the trip and we have never had any problems. I know another family who uses Addison Lee.

Re: What musical instrument to learn?

How old are they? Lots of primary schools give kids a chance to learn something - our year 5 did drums in year 1, recorder in year 2, ukulele in year 3, guitar in year 4 and it now doing steel pans! Their reaction to School instruments may give you a clue. It is worth thinking about whether they wan...

Re: Graveney feedback please vs SCHS

Our daughter is in Year 10 at SCHS and we have been delighted with the school - for us the balance of stretching her (she would otherwise be likely to coast) but not putting her under too much pressure has been great. She has also really appreciated the range of extra curricular activities, has been...

Re: Any restaurant recommendations near Streatham Odeon?

I agree with all of those suggested - if you fancy a pizza then we think Bravia ragazzi are the best pizzas available outside of Italy!!

Re: Help: husband has found god

I am religious (and actively so) but my husband is an atheist. We have been happily married for over 20 years, and have 2 children, so please take heart that it can be done! Our situation is a bit different as we knew from the start that our views were divergent, but in the end were comfortable that...

Re: work stress / home stress

One little trick we used was to have the kids have a later bedtime. Not very English I know, but from a very early age our girls (now 7 and 12) had an 8pm/8.15pm bedtime as the nanny worked until 8pm. It was still sometimes a mad rush to get home from work, but much easier than aiming for 6.30pm and...

Re: In an ideal world which school would you choose?

Not sure where you are, but we have been extremely happy with Henry Cavendish in Balham, which also, as of yesterday, has an outstanding OFSTED in all four categories. Both our girls are happy (year 6 and year 1), supported and challenged, with great friends and sensitive enthusiastic teachers. Ther...

Flat wanted in Streatham/Balham/Tooting

Our nanny, who has worked for us for over 10 years, has just been given 6 weeks' notice by her landlord, as he has sold the flat she has lived in for the last 8+ years. She is looking for either a flat or a house share for herself and her cat, ideally in Streatham but she is willing to look farther ...

Re: New kitchen

Balmain London did ours (shop on Broomwood Rd opposite the end of Northcote Rd) and we are still very pleased with it 3 years later. Perhaps not the cheapest, but great personal service and not HJ prices.

Re: Difference between private and state

Just to add my "two pennies worth" on tutoring, although I guess we will not know whether this has been "worth it" until next March (eldest is currently in year 6). Here was our thinking. She is in a local state primary school, where they do not (and I am glad they do not - I wan...

Re: Bedtime for a two year old?

It's a while ago now for us (girls are 5 and 10) but bedtime has always pretty much been 8pm (later now for older one) because we tend not to get home until then. Provided they get enough sleep (I think 12 hours is the recommendation for a 2 year old from memory) my view is that you should choose a ...

Re: Primary State School Open Days/show rounds

Hi Henry Cavendish does not have open days, they just arrange tours for interested parents in small groups which last around 30-40 mins. If you are trying to call them to arrange a date, I would suggest avoiding 8.45am to 9.30am, 11.45am to 12.45 and 3pm to 4pm as the office staff are usually busy d...

Just to say that we have used the emergency service from Tinies Childcare on a couple of occasions, and have had universally fantastic nannies, even at such short notice. I would highly recommend their service

Re: Sibling Age Gap Input Needed

Hi. We have a 5 year age gap between our 2 girls - they are now 5 and 10. Sometimes it feels like I have a split personality - one minute I am sounding out phonics and the next I am looking at verbal reasoning tests! As you might imagine, there have been advantages and disadvantages to the age gap. ...
