Re: How big is the academic gap between Honeywell and Newton Prep?

Hi, I think that if you really want to understand the difference between state and private for Primary you have to go back to the first response posted by ColdatChristmas - as they basically nailed it. It all comes down to what you want to achieve longer term. The Prep schools are called “Prep” for ...

Re: A baby at 40

I had my first daughter at 40 (nearly 41) - she was a happy unplanned event as my husband and I met in my late 30's. Then I had my second daughter at 44. She was planned (very luckily for us) almost to the day. From a health perspective, both the girls and I were healthy; and both (natural) births w...

Re: Where's best to buy a 'homemade' quiche?!

Tart on The Pavement, Clapham Common - or there's a French cafe next door (can't remember what it's called) that also makes fresh quiches every day.

Enjoy the party!

Re: Northcote House Nursery - Change in Ofsted rating

Our second daughter was at Northcote House for about 5 months at the end of 2015. I don't want to go into specific details, but she wasn't happy and we weren't happy. In the end we went back to Lavender Hill Day Nursery - where our eldest went for 2 years but was no longer as convenient location-wis...

Re: Top ten places to eat?

London House has really improved in recent years. They did away with the white table cloths and brought in a more relaxed menu and service, and it is a great place now. They also do a lovely weekend brunch menu, which is great fun with a group of friends I agree - we love London House now. Less for...

Re: Looking for legal advice for unfair immediate redundancy

Very sorry to hear that. I would also strongly recommend Florence Brocklesby ( on 07855493075. She is ex-Linklaters and a local Mum who set up her own practice specialising in women who have been unfairly treated and/or dismissed in the workplace. This would be a classic a...

Re: Pediatric Cardiologist reco please

Another vote for Piers Debauney - we saw him on the NHS at Chelsea and Westminster- he's exceptional. If you need to get your little one checked urgently ask your GP if you can see him at ChelWest on a 2-week referral (= you have to be seen within two weeks but it's usually much quicker). Good luck!

Re: Trinity Restaurant to open new restaurant on Bellevue Road

I really hope that Buona Sera isn't being replaced by the Ivy - the place is fantastic for good quality affordable family lunches - the only place of it's kind/cuisine on Northcote road. :(

Re: Exposed brick wall

Hiya -- I used brickslips rather than actual bricks - they are cheaper and easier to put up. Essentially they are "tiles" made of actual bricks that have been cut into 2-3cm slithers - gives the effect of a exposed brick wall. Have a look at That's where we got ours and the...

Re: Which GP - Battersea Rise or Heritage ?

Hi -- I've found Dr. Nicky Williams to be particularly excellent with the children since they were babies and all things maternity-related. Also, more recently with second baby (who is now1) Dr Wheldon has been great. She's relatively new to the surgery but very experienced. Good luck! Xx

Re: Which GP - Battersea Rise or Heritage ?

Hi - I don't know Heritage but I'll join in giving a big thumbs up for Battersea Rise Surgery. I've been with them for 10 years and through the birth of two children. It's not just the partner Drs Williams and Bass that are fastastic - it's the whole team - Drs Mohan, Harris, Wheldon, Morton, nurse ...

Re: How much should I pay an au pair

Hi all -- So my tuppence is that you should pay a "fair market rate". And in my view, the best way to work out what the fair market rate is for the area you live is to ask as many people as possible in your area what they are paying. That way, when they meet other au pairs in the park, they will be ...
