Re: Decent dinner party wine?

This is a great thread! Can I piggy back off it and ask for recommendations of a nice bottle of wine to take round to friends when invited for dinner? I have a lot of friends who are really into their wine and I always feel very clueless in this situation! Thanks! I would take flowers or chocolates...

Re: Mice removal company?

We had mice and caught them in humane traps. We then released them into the woods in Wandsworth common. They’re very cute.

Re: Saying no to my sister?

How about letting her stay there for free but asking for a hefty security deposit (maybe to the value of what you would get were you to rent it out?) That way she gets her holiday and she also gets a massive incentive not to break your (very reasonable) rules.

I think “manned” covers both sexes in the same way we now call actresses “actors” and heroines “heroes”. 😉

Re: Proposed change to Waitrose Balham Car Park - Automatic Number Plate Recognition

Well, if they start behaving like Tesco it won’t be fun! They have their car park full of builder’s vans after they sold off land to development. To sort this issue, they’ve asked the external parking management company to be extra harsh! A minute over the time and expect a fine, same for parking i...

Re: Does your son at Emanuel, Ibstock or Graveney play video games?

As long as he’s playing as part of a team I wouldn’t worry too much. My son has made a whole bunch of friends through gaming. It’s developed his leadership abilities. It’s great for learning to cooperate. When he’s later in his teens you’ll perhaps appreciate more him being in his bedroom chatting t...

Re: Happy Christmas, not "Happy Holidays" please!

Interesting. I am not religious as such but always cringe if I see the phrases "Happy Holidays" , or worse "Tis the Season" (ugh!) since they are horrible "Americanisations" of our English language. Also the substitution of "Xmas" for Christmas makes me cring...

Re: Kids friendly club with swimming pool

I don’t think they exist in London like they do in the US. The Harbour club has a restaurant, pools and tennis but is primarily a sports club. The Hurlingham Club is probably closer to what you want but I think their waiting list is closed and even when it’s open it’s about 20 years. The Roehampton ...

Re: More about in laws and Christmas

Most people posting on here about their in-laws at Xmas say they don’t want to see them so it’s unusual to have someone saying they do. My in-laws never offered to have the kids stay. We once asked them to look after them while we went to a wedding abroad for a few days and when we came back they sa...
