Re: Screen time and young children

Don't do it! We just came back from a week long hokuday with some friends. I love the family, but the approach to childcare has been plug in the kids so the adults can have some quiet time, pretty much as long as I've known them. Their three are 10, 14, and 16, and all three were plugged in for most...

Re: Deliberate downgrading of A level results 2017

Probably because the moderators found that the coursework they examined was consistently, on average, 6 marks too high. So if the sample was marked too generously, then the rest would or could have been as well. So, a six mark deduction across the board. I'm not sure how the different exam boards wo...

Re: Deliberate downgrading of A level results 2017

I don't think it's deliberately targeting your child's school. When the moderators look at the marks from centres, they look for discrepancies; this will include schools where marks are too high, as well as schools where the marks are too low. It could be that the teachers were being too generous, s...

Re: Fatal sabbing in Furzedown

It's not exactly next door, to be honest. This happened at the Thrale Road end of Penwortham, and the incident last summer was at the corner of Welham and Gorse Rise - nearly a mile apart! It is, otherwise, a good and safe neighbourhood, with a great community spirit. I just wish people would get th...

Re: Nursery food

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. As Evie says, maybe they're expecting some/most of the kids to have a proper dinner when they get home, so are only giving them a little 'tea' in the afternoon. And there's nothing really *that* bad about jam or honey sandwiches, is there? When we lived ...

Re: How i got my daughter into 4 top schools from a state sc

Sorry, but the style of the two 'different' posters seem too similar for it to be a coincidence.
I'm a private tutor as well, and have seen how some of my colleagues resort to some fairly dodgy advertising techniques. Just sayin'...

Tea party at home?

Good afternoon NVN, I'm in the process of setting up a new business, catering for tea parties at home. I do all sorts of events, but if you are hosting a mums' coffee morning, an afternoon tea for your nan's 90th, a birthday party, or any other event, I can help. Sandwiches, brownies, cakes, cookies...

Re: Local Sandwich Maker/Supplier for Children's Party

Hi there,
I'd be happy to help. I'm setting up a 'tea party at home' business, after running a successful catering business in the Netherlands for the last year and a half. I've sent you a pm, but if anyone else needs similar, please feel free to contact me.

Re: Air Bnb or Homestay? Safe to do with children?

We used to do airbnb when we lived in the Netherlands. We had a spare room and it was a good way to make a little extra money. Our kids are now 3 and 4 1/2, but this was 6-ish months ago. We put in our ad that it was a family home, so all the people coming knew that it was likely to be crazy at meal...

Re: Cyclist injured by Wandsworth Southside

In my opinion, cyclists should be allowed to ride anywhere they like, even if it's the 'wrong' way down a one-way street. They should, of course, be expected to adhere to traffic lights and cross walks as far as possible. The UK could learn a lot from the Netherlands, where the bike rules the road. ...
