Is there a cheaper option than an Architect?

We're about to embark on a renovation and would like something a bit different from the norm. There's no way we could afford an architect at 10-15% of the building cost, and the builders' own architects are a bit "standard" for my liking. Is there a half-way option available? Someone who c...

Airplane noise BTC on the rise?!

We live BTC, close to the small part of Clapham Common (train playground) with a north facing garden. We are shocked by how close the planes are flying at the moment. Sitting in our garden in the evening they are flying past every couple of minutes and are loud enough for us to need to speak louder ...

Re: HELP - Sooooo we know that this is the best place to liv

If you don't have to be on the tube line & d epending on your budget, East Dulwich is lovely and very central. House prices around 1/2 what you pay here and has great state schools and a very nice feel to it with lots of shops and restaurants, local market and Dulwich park and Peckham Rye for gr...

How hard is it to close the playground gate?!

In the space of an hour I had to close it 4 times after seeing it open. We were at the one at the top of battersea rise where the south circular with all it's traffic is just a few meters away from the gate. It would be so easy for a toddler to get to the road before a parent has even noticed they a...

Re: North facing garden off northcote rd

Thanks for all the replies. Pie81, I think you hit the nail on the head. After thinking a lot about it, I've come to the conclusion that what's crucial to me is actually the amount of sun at the back of the house (I.e. Kitchen) more than sun at the end of the garden. I've therefore decided to stick ...

Re: What DO we want on Northcote Road???

I think the other pregnancy clothing shop is closing down as well (the one that used to be pretty pregnant). Does anyone know about the baby room on northcote? Surely the space is too small to use as a nursery?
