Re: Half of Wandsworth mums don't give birth at St George

C&W mat unit isn't closing - this is at least in part as a result of the outcomes of public consultation. There were several comments/threads on NVN about it if I remember correctly. This is a non-story from the WW Guardian, who seem to struggle for 'news' (although I think they only have one, o...

Re: How would you rank High View, Alderbrook, Wix (English s

Would be hard for anyone to rank these schools as they are quite spread out and it is unlikely anyone will have personal experience of all three. If you want to 'compare' the schools perhaps have a look at some of the results/league table info. Will only give you one angle though (it won't tell you ...

Re: Saturday morning activities

National Army Museum soft play (Chelsea - short bus ride). Book ahead online to ensure you can get in. It's a Kid's Thing in Earlsfield. Become a member there, or - if you have no regard for your own sanity - Gambado in Chelsea.

Re: Views on St Faiths, Tonsleys

Hi Happy Mummy. I totally agree with you. I am sure it is a great school (not personal experience but have looked round it and liked a lot). Just saying that you should sell it on what IT has to offer and not how it compares, on one or two data points, to other local schools (especially as whatever ...

Re: Views on St Faiths, Tonsleys

St Faiths seems great and the community support is what all our local schools deserve. Beware of picking stats and competing with other local schools - we can all pick our info to say that one or another is out performing the rest. KS1 data for St Faiths is very good this yr but at KS2 the numbers o...

Re: Kids Home Alone

Most schools are happy for children to go home on their own from Y5 ish, i.e. 10 - and you can imagine that many of those go home and are alone for at least a short while. We expect our secondary school children to travel to/from home alone and you could argue that being alone for a couple of hours ...

Re: Moving from a state primary to a private secondary

So far as I can gather from here/other forums/talking to parents there is just as much spending on tutors that goes on within the independent (primary) sector as within the state sector. It is a basic statistical fact that more people go private for secondary than for primary - all of the indy secon...

Re: Local State Schools - Give us a clue

I don't know a lot about ARK, other than that they are a charity (and amongst other things fund some student bursaries for students at Oxbridge / other top end unis), but I think high staff turnover is very common when there's new management / including a new head at a school is it not? Sure I've se...

Re: Local State Schools - Give us a clue

Sure. BV having more places available makes sense but I can see it becoming at least as competitive as BV. I have no doubt whatever that the school will receive more than 120 applications within a short time period from the feeder schools (if not already). If it is a real success the number of BV/HW...

Re: Local State Schools - Give us a clue

Thanks so much for that NSC - very helpful. Just to clarify, banding isn't the same as being selective - as it takes children from every ability group. If places for the Academy become very difficult to get, there will be an obvious bias towards Belleville children (simply because the school is so m...

Re: John Archer Way area primary schools

Do look at High View as well. It is doing well - results comparable to Belleville - and there are more and more positive reviews of it. It is also a feeder for Bolingbroke which will be your nearest state secondary which could be a factor if you are considering long-term state education in this area.

Re: Local State Schools - Give us a clue

Results are not a factor in the admissions policy supergirl. Although I can imagine it might go that way in the next 5-7 years - for example introducing a banding system, like the one used at Ashcroft (rather than a selective stream like Graveney). That's pure speculation on my part though.

Full admissions details here: http://www.arkbolingbrokeacademy.org/Mainfolder/Ark-Bolingbroke-Admissions-Policy-2014-FINAL.pdf Siblings come first (actually, looked after children, children of founders and children of staff in shortage subjects come before siblings, but they will be tiny numbers) so...

Re: Local State Schools - Give us a clue

I think ChristChurch isn't a feeder because it is a) faith and, consequently, b) a feeder for St Cecilia's, which is a very good school albeit a bit of a trek (less so than many of the privates people use though) so it wouldn't really have been fair for it to feed 2 schools. I think it was fairly co...
