Re: Looking for non-selective private secondary or prep

We found our son was getting increasingly stressed in Year 5 with all the exam prep and decided to opt out of the exams altogether. Our eldest was very happy at JAGS but we could see the same type of school was not going to suit our son. He went to Ewell Castle School, which is now mixed sex, and it...

Re: Recommendations for Orthodontist / any feedback on Battersea Rise Orthodontist Practice

I would second the recommendation of Battersea Rise and Dr Sam. He’s a bit full-on but so encouraging and supportive to the kids. Also, he has fit us in in emergencies (like when my son broke his bracket for the 4th time in a month). We came from 1a Orthodontics where Dr Borhan did a decent job with...

Re: Save Northcote Library and Chatham Hall!

Alex Glassbrook from Wandsworth Lib Dems wrote the council yesterday and made some excellent points. Please read to understand the concerns many local residents have with the project and with the way it is being handled. Wandsworth Liberal Democrats. N Lb & Chatham Hall. Letter to Councillor Coo...

Re: Save Northcote Library and Chatham Hall!

I'm just not sure we are getting all that much. The floor space is reduced. Chatham Hall will be gone. I think we can do better and I'm not willing to take the council's word for it that this is the only way possible. I would love a better library, as well, but we shouldn't just accept something bec...

Re: CHATHAM HALL FLYER, INFO & PETITION

There are a lot of non-NIMBY reasons to oppose this project. I disagree that the current library is an eyesore. The exterior is definitely an architectural style not to everyone's taste, but it at least has character. The proposals are so generic and could easily house shops versus a public space. I...

Save Northcote Library and Chatham Hall!

The council has new plans for Northcote Road. These include demolishing BOTH our familiar icon, Northcote Library, and the thriving community centre across the road, Chatham Hall. The new plans for a new library and community space are modest in scope, reducing the available space for us, the reside...

Re: Do you know how much your partner earns?

I think you are violating someone's entitlement to privacy with this last post on this thread. I suspect I know who you are talking about and I think discussing what you've heard about someone's divorce on a public forum is inappropriate.

Re: Need hamster breeder recommendation ASAP

Honestly, the pet store on Northcote Road is very careful with their hamsters. They don't keep them around long, and they are very carefully handled there. We have had two of the nicest, least nervous, easily trained and lovely hamsters from there (one was inherited from neighbours who moved). We ha...

Re: How to get a reluctant nanny to teach reading and writin

All kids are different, and while 3.5 is really too early for some kids, others will be really excited to start learning to read. I have one of each! Anyway, this book was really great with my daughter (though my son was totally not interested and learned to read just fine once in primary school). M...

Re: Children's behaviour therapies (after divorce)

I took my daughter to a terrific therapist--specialises in play/art/drama therapy. We've seen definite improvement--both in her behaviours and in mine, too! My daughter loves going. Her name is Tamsin Cottis and she has a practice in Battersea, near the park.

Re: Northcote Road Library

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about privatisation, but anything is better than what we've got? Perhaps a private company will welcome volunteers because it isn't worried about protecting council jobs, but perhaps that would jeopardise funding? All I know is volunteers seem not to be welcome at the librar...

Re: Local Traffic / Olympic chaos!

I called Wandsworth about light on Bellvue and Trinity where they'd eliminated green arrow. They wouldn't acknowledge they'd done anything, rather blamed it on possible road works having reset lights incorrectly. Now I notice Burntwood is backed up, but this could be because of Garratt Lane? I can't...
