Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

I agree with Petal,

If we want a pure fair system lets get rid of distance criteria and expensive postcodes too. Let's have lottery selection for all of those that apply, like some secondary schools are doing. They only expect the child to be at the door on time.

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

If you search on google the admission policy for your prospective school you will see the criteria. Practising Christians go after all catholics. So you could get in the school. As mentioned earlier, the school has to fill all free spaces.

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Dear Ippyevie, Apologies if we were verbally aggravating but if you read the post properly you will find actuallyadad was not just asking a fair question. This are some of his also aggravating comments: "I imagine it can't hurt to make a donation, it's all a game of making friends with the vicar/gov...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Just wow. I'm sitting on the fence here and have been considering going to masses for quite a while to get my child in a Catholic church nearby. We even consider converting. I have to say it's pretty daunting to say the least when I see the responses from Chutneymaniac and Scottov to a perfectly va...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

A simple search on Google http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/faith-schools-are-failing-to-comply-with-pupil-admissions-rules-a6673566.html A better summary in the Guardian but cannot paste link - simply search "faith schools intake results" Also Ofsted concluded in its repor...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

@Scottov this may be an emotive topic, but no need to be rude. People may have different views to you but please try and keep it civil Dear Actuallyadad, I would beg you to stop calling people that dont agree with you rude or weird and lecturing them on how to keep things civil and apply that to yo...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Ok Chutneymaniac this has gone a bit weird and personal. I'm not engaging in a public debate with a stranger about my personal religious views. It's not about me "not caring about" a particular religion. This isn't the forum to deal with the merits of Catholicism or the ensuing arguments around con...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Dear livegreen, I dont think you know the Catholic Church or other Christian Churches very well. They have educated not just the poorest children in the UK but the poorest children in the WORLD. Missionaries give THEIR LIFES every day to teach children in the poorest parts of Africa, South America,...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Dear Actuallyadad, I dont expect you to lie to become a Catholic, just to consider becoming one. If you find out what it stands for (all horrible things like loving each other and treating others like you want to be treated, etc, etc...) and you still dont agree with it you should not become one. Bu...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Dear Actuallyadad, Your examples are wrong and not like for like. The state resources you mention ARE available to all as all kids get the same funding, only the poorest get more funding through pupil premium. Catholics do not get exclusive resources, facilities and opportunities. They get the same ...

Re: Do local faith schools demand money from parents?

Good morning, As far as having faith schools, I think freedom of choice should be respected. Catholic parents ALSO pay taxes. They are not getting a special privilege. If their schools do better is because their governors (catholic parents and members of the Church) have higher expectations and dema...

Re: Father removing me from will

Dear outofwill, Again, ignore the old but very unwise man. It not your dad's job to educate your children but it IS his job to be careful and responsible with the inheritance YOU MUM left him. Remember his second wife may already have a house and her children could end up inheriting two properties a...

Re: Father removing me from will

Dear outofwill, You have every right to want your children (as you are going to spend your inheritance in their education) to benefit from whatever is left from your dad AND mum. Plus if they get divorced, you are still going to be his family and you will still look after him. She will disappear. Ta...
