Re: Bathroom refit

Hi. We have just used Clapham Park Bathrooms to design our new bathroom (ordered, and work starts next week). Very helpful with the design, and they do 3D computer walk rounds of your design so you can get the effect. Also great with advice on choosing items, and different budget options. CPB do hav...

Re: where to get ceiling cornicing made

Hi We found Kamil through great reviews here on NVN, and used him a few years ago to replace badly over-painted cornicing in one half of our double sitting room that didn’t match the other half, and also didn’t go fully round the bay window (our window has curves each side, the previous cornicing ju...

Re: University allowances - advice needed please

We also did £100/week last year for our son who was self-catered, in the north-east. It seemed to work well enough - he learned to be savvy with his supermarket shop, keeping it to around £50 for a shop every 10 days or so, and didn’t complain that didn’t have enough for beers in the bar. We would h...

Re: Is a central WA group a good idea to add 11+ progress of our children?

I’ve always said to friends with younger children that it’s best not to discuss the 11+ with other mums other than good, trusted friends. It’s far too easy to get stressed out hearing that, eg another child has done 5 practice papers this week, whereas yours may not have done any, or another family ...

Re: Laptop repair recommendation

Salaam at Atlas Computing Repair, near Clapham South tube (Cathles Rd) did a great job of repairing my son’s cracked laptop screen, and seemed to know everything about computers and phones generally. I will go back to him to get my own Mac upgraded with new processor and RAM. His mob +44 7969 480349.

Re: Electric blind recommendations

Hi. We used Stuart Murphy of Bespoke Curtains & Blinds to advise and fit our large electric blinds. www.bespokecurtainsblinds.com, 020 3601 7496 He was very helpful, and reasonable price compared to others too. Our motors are by Somfy, the material is very slightly see through, so you can still ...

Re: What's your school doing re: opening 1 June?

I'm also very surprised by the negative comments re Belleville on here, I think they've been doing a good job.  The weekly phone call from our class teacher is really appreciated, it is a good chance for me to talk through anything with the teacher, and my child is really happy to hear from him too....

Re: Recommendations for shutters

Hi We recently used The Traditional Shutter Company (www.thetraditionalshuttercompany.co.uk), and are very happy with our cafe shutters. We also have a north-facing room, and only wanted half-height. We had got a quote from Plantation Shutters, who were marginally cheaper, but their lead times were ...

Re: FLAT ROOF SPECIALIST

Stacy at Series A Roofing. A company that really cares about doing a top quality job. We’ve also had some abysmal roofers too... Series A won’t be the cheapest but they really know what they are doing, and will do it properly.

Re: Removals

Hi, Burke & Wills are fab, really cheery guys, a real can-do attitude, and they packed everything beautifully. They may not be the cheapest, I'm not sure, but at least worth getting a quote. We have used them twice now, and love them. Moving is stressful enough, it is worth getting good removals...

Re: Pest control recommendation

We have also just used Pestalance for mice, and can recommend them very highly. They were extremely knowledgable about all rodents (we didn't know what the cause of our problem was at first), found and dealt with the problem very efficiently, and were always extremely punctual to all appointments. W...

Foxbury Building Ltd - any experience?

I was wondering if anyone has used Foxbury, or knows of friends or neighbours who have? We are thinking of doing a basement conversion, and their quote has come in as competitive, however there is little info on them out there on the web. Obviously we can ask to see examples of their work, but they ...
