Re: What Does a Hairstyle Tell You?

Thank you all. We are in the ‘thick of it’ at the mo so have not broached the subject of hair; don’t want to add any extra potential stress. The only long-haired boys I remember seeing were in the sixth form of a couple of state schools in Wandsworth. The registrar at his own school (Wandsworth indy...

What Does a Hairstyle Tell You?

Help! I’m in a dilemma...My son is sitting 11+ exams in January, much like so many 10/11 year olds in the country. As part of the process he’ll be having interviews both initial ones and/or then second stage ones (fingers crossed). How do you think the interviewers will perceive his long hair? It’s ...

Ice skating Lessons in Streatham

Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience of the ice skating lessons at Streatham Ice-rink at all? Want to try and get the boys (8,10) a little familiar on the ice before we head into town over the hols. Interested especially in anyone that may have booked any 1:1 lessons With the coaches.

Re: Rutherford House Selfish Parents

OP - Don’t forget those Argos shoppers who clog up the car park at weekends; mustn’t leave them out. God forbid you have something big to collect from Argos one day and dare to use the Tesco car park without buying a packet of sweets! Tesco get a lot of business from RHS parents and I’m sure that if...

Re: Gails to SW12

I didn’t even click on the link to the job advert...that’s disgraceful when you think that the ‘living wage’ for London is calculated as £10.20 per hour. Also, one tends to forget to tip when you pay upfront so they prob don’t make much on tips either.

Re: Gails to SW12

Just when you thought we couldn't get any more coffee shops/cafes in Balham..! This will make the school run incredibly difficult although I can't help thinking traffic/parking may increase around that area. The corner and high road has the most one-hour free parking spots in Balham.

Happy Days!

Re: Need Recommendations for an Acupuncturist

Thanks for the recommendation.

Turns out I didn't have a frozen shoulder after all but rather a 'shoulder impingement'. In any case, I found a great acupuncturist, Sophie Silverwood-Cope (Balham based) who helped me tremendously in just two sessions.

Need Recommendations for an Acupuncturist

Woke up on Sunday morning with a frozen shoulder and wondering if anyone might have had any experience of this? Was reading that acupuncture could be effective, can anyone recommend one?

Re: Only afford to send one to private school

We have two boys 7 and 9 years old; the older goes to a local independent and the younger a state primary. At the time the first was going to school we were not sure where we would be working/living so we decided to send him to the independent. It would have been a big stretch to send both to indepe...

Re: Ravenstone vs Rutherford House primaries

Hello, We are Rutherford House (RHS) parents with a son in Y2 and another in a local independent so we see both sides of the fence so to speak. We are really pleased we went with RHS and would certainly have sent the elder one also, if it had been there. We like how responsive the teachers are, for ...

Re: Bike lessons

Hi - not sure if you're still looking for an instructor but I've recent experience of a great guy who taught my youngest (7) to cycle and took my eldest (9) out onto the local roads for his Bikeability 2 certification. He works with local councils Lambeth, Southwark etc and works with both children ...

Re: Boys hair cut

Hi, I've used Sam's Barbers on Chestnut Grove (around the corner from Balham underground) a couple of times now and I can't fault them. Both boys have completely different requirements - one wants a Ronaldo cut, the other wants to keep his locks but willingly had an 'Elvis' cut, which looked great! ...

Re: Rutherford House Christmas Fair

This year's Rutherford House Christmas Fair is all about the children! Guest appearances from Deen City Farm animals, a team of festive face painters, as well as Santa and his elves in their grotto. We will also have the usual favourites - including bouncy castle, kids' games galore, arts and crafts...
