Re: Floreat or Allfarthing or Swaffield or Wandsworth Prep

We love WPS. After just a year at Wandsworth Prep (having been at a state school for years prior), I have a different child.  The gains in confidence, language development, reading level, maths, etc. have been profound.  It is a small school but they do a lot! Small classes, forest school, sport at ...

Lovely Pixies Nursery on Clapham Common

I just wanted to write a quick note in praise of Pixies Nursery at Holy Trinity Church on Clapham Common. My daughter is headed to Reception in September and she has thrived in this nursery. She started when she was just 2 years 1 month and the teachers have worked alongside us with everything (incl...

Re: Advice on Bolingbroke Playgroup / Early Years Centre

This playgroup is wonderful but the chances of you getting a spot for a 2 year old are slim to none! The waiting list is long and 3 year olds have priority. My older daughter went there until we moved house and I can't say enough positive things about Rosie, Stacey and Birhan, the space itself and t...

Babysitter/Mother's helper needed two afternoons a week

We are looking for someone to help out with our two daughters, ages 7 months and 2 years 8 months, for two afternoons a week (approximately 8-10 h/w.) We live between the commons so you would have easy access to go to the one o'clock clubs, the playgrounds, playgroups or playdates with any other nan...

Re: Possibly a ridiculous question...best door mat for exten

Photo from March 2014.jpg http://shop.telegraph.co.uk/buy/home-furnishings/super-absorbent-dirt-grabber-mats/80/no/86146 FYI, they are not machine washable but the dirt & muck comes off easily with the vacuum once dry. Here's a picture of it, we have the "slate" color which is really ...

Re: Possibly a ridiculous question...best door mat for exten

We have two dogs and a mud pit in the back garden so we bought a mud trapper mat from the Telegraph Solutions --it is not very attractive but it works! Ended up with another by the entry to catch the endless sand that our 2+ year old brings home.

Re: Car Seat on Airplanes

We used our seat on the flight from California to LHR. Other posters mentioned some good points but I would add, look for the "airline approved" markings on the seat (if it has them) we were able to point it out to the flight attendant at the desk when asked so there was no confusion as to...

Re: Baby friendly pubs/restaurants in the evening?

We took our one-month old to The Rookery (across from Clapham Common at the East end of Windmill Drive) and I just called to let them know we'd be bringing her along. They were great and had a specific table set aside for us where we could tuck the buggy out of the way next to us. We've also taken h...

How do you keep the mud and wet out of the house?

I am the first to admit it, I am soft and not used to the four seasons. Since we moved from San Diego we haven't had to deal with much mud, rain and the other byproducts of mother nature and I am now at a loss as to how to keep some semblance of cleanliness. Add in a two year old and two dogs and we...
