Re: Should I pay school fees upfront - is there a benefit?

Oh that's interesting. I always thought it was a way to "lock in" the current fees. Can I ask how big a discount schools provide?

Re: how much allowance for a sixteen year old

Is that all just spending money or does he need to buy clothes or anything else from the £100? Our 13 yes old has only £15/ month and I know we need to raise it as he goes into socialising independently more (now I give him some cash when he goes to meet friends) but I hope he is cooking one night a...

Re: reasonable price for nephew and niece Xmas presents

Cheeky! We are more in the £25-35 range for my nieces and nephews, but often this is one toy gift around £25 and then a book.  I think you can be blunt (since they have been with the requests) and reply what your budget is. You could offer to give them £xx cash each so they can save towards those it...

Re: Does your son at Emanuel, Ibstock or Graveney play video games?

I was quite precious about video games too and only eased up when my son was in y6 but it was very restricted, 1 HR a week. Then lock down happened and that jumped to closer to 1 HR a day. Not ideal, but it's been the only way for him to socialize with friends so has had its place. Worth considering...

advice on mock exams and coaching for independent 11+ entry this year

We've not gone the tutoring route as my son has done well throughout primary but I'm slightly panicking about how doing well in school is not the same as doing well on entrance exams. We've done some bond  and letts practice papers but I wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations for some mock...

Re: How do I get my overweight partner to lose weight?

"Well, I think the best you can do in this case is to let him choose between living with you and caring about himself or without you." Can you even imagine if someone posted this advice to a man - threaten to leave your wife if she doesn't get fit enough for your liking?  Luckily that use...

Re: Jeweller recommendation for valuation and restoration

Can I ask what one normally pays for this sort of service? In particular the valuation as I've been recently given one of my grandmother's diamond rings and need to put it on the insurance.

Re: Disabled blue badge holders parking

Be aware that every council has different rules. Some have unlimited time, some an extra hour (you have to displaya little paper  clock next to the blue badge) some allow you to park in residents bays, some don't.  You really need to plan your travels and check the council website beforehand.

Re: Please sign and share this petition to help save au pairing from the threats of Brexit

You can't actaully legally get an au pair from the US because of immigration and working visa treaties. That's sort of the point.

Re: Giving access to upstairs neighbour carrying out a loft conversion

builders are only allowed to work the following hours where residential occupiers are likely to be affected by noise Just to say that they may get around this by arriving on site at 7, doing busy work for an hour but not starting the power tools until 8. I'd reply that you expect the work to adhere...

Re: £43,000 for a new roof?

Can you get ask ti see a detailed quote and the get a few few independent quotes and compare like for like. It really sounds like they are trying to fleece you and having ended up in tribunal are now back peddling. You shouldn't have to go with their company though and if they have prior history I'm...

Re: Extra support for our 6 year old. Please help

Haven't read through all the posts but agree not to push him as he's still so young. Practically speaking, when we were both working full time and my son was in reception (older end of the class) we had the same battles and realised that 5 minutes in the morning when he was well rested was far more ...

Re: Reading level question

Applause to atbattersea and her stealth boast. How wonderful for her and her family that her son was reading James and the Giant Peach at age 5 but this is not normal or expected behaviour. I'm sure reading every day with your child helps, but children will learn at different speeds at different age...
