Re: Good primary/prep for ADHD

Smallwood primary school is an excellent and truly inclusive primary. I don't think there is any substitute though for going to see the schools and speaking with the SEN coordinator. You'll soon get a feel for the school's ethos and whether it would work. The reality is that many schools will be rel...

Re: Christmas panto - any recommendations?

For something a little different, I cannot recommend the Charles Court Opera Co enough. Based on a pub in Islington, it's so worth the journey. Amazing singing obviously but also the funniest and best panto I've ever seen by a very long shot. Check out the reviews for previous shows online.

Re: Childcare scheme saving 40% on nursery fees

Seems to me this is legal at the moment. Employers are allowed to use salary sacrifice schemes (which saves the tax rate of the employee) when providing work place childcare. We used to get this when my son when to a work place based nursery provided by my husband's employer. HOWEVER as any tax lawy...

Re: Help - 8 year old party girl ideas

Oh and its not really craft as such but if your daughter likes craft, she might enjoy everyone making their own pizza or decorating their own cupcake for the party tea.

Re: Help - 8 year old party girl ideas

One idea I've seen that was really successful is decorating a Tote bag. Just buy a load of plain white or natural bags from amazon and then fabric pens/glitter pens/needle and thread/sequins/beads etc. You can download some stencils or designs from the internet to give them inspiration and if you wa...

Sofabed/futon recommendation

I wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a good value sofabed or futon for a spare room? The kids will watch TV on it and it will occasionally be used as a guest bed at Christmas etc. I've heard that putting a memory foam topper on them does wonders for comfort levels and I can't really justify...

Re: Classy hen do? Help!!!!

Harrogate is lovely. Less far for the Scottish people to travel and the Turkish baths are beautiful. Lots of lovely hotels and restaurants to visit (plus the legendary Betty's tea room for afternoon tea).

Re: Red card for Mayor over his football stadium decision

The comment about being non-British born bears absolutely zero relevance to the topic being discussed.

Re: Red card for Mayor over his football stadium decision

Gosh, what a horrible comment about not being British born. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. Whether I agree with any individual Councillor not, I respect them for making a contribution to our community. I sincerely hope that people who think in the way that the poster above does are in...

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! 4 year old still in nappies

I can understand your concern but I think that you need to distinguish bad parenting from behaviour that makes a child unsafe. I'm not sure that still wearing a nappy and using a dummy is something that makes a child unsafe. I suspect that you are likely to be viewed suspiciously by Social Services ...

Night time toilet training for 4.5 year old

My little boy is now 4.5. He's been dry in the day for ages but we are really struggling with night times. He just doesn't seem to wake up when he needs a wee. It's as if the bladder full signal just can't get through his deep sleep. We've tried praising, lifting and we make sure he goes for a wee j...

Re: Am I being selfish? Caring for husbands father?

Hello, You have my every sympathy. I was put in a very similar position by one of my brothers-in-law and I refused. In my case, there wasn't any dementia but my FIL had always been a terrible father to my husband and caused him a great deal of pain and heartache over the years. Plus I frankly can't ...

Re: Neal's Lodge - Private Enterprise of Community Asset

The difficulty that I have with this argument is that when the council do appear to be trying to maximise a community asset, those in opposition argue for the side of the minority that live on a few roads that might experience increased disruption. They argue vehemently against motor vehicles and no...

Re: Best primary school in Wandsworth?

Bear in mind that league table results are, at best, an extremely crude measure of how good a school is and at worse, no measure at all. They don't measure whether a school has added value to a child or helped them reach their potential. special needs unit results are not separated from mainstream e...

Private Client lawyer - very flexible role

I am going on maternity leave in September and my employer (Practical Law at Thomson Reuters) is looking for an experienced private client lawyer to cover my year off. PLC is a brilliant place to work and far far more family friendly than any law firm I've ever worked in. There is ample scope from w...
