Re: Anyone else annoyed at the excessive 'settling in' period for reception in primary school penalising the least well

I think you're confusing education and childcare. The school is only concerned with education and what enhances your child's experience of it. They are not there as free childcare for parents. Yes they do happen to serve this purpose for many weeks of the year, but that is not their remit. A surpris...

Re: School trips

I'm interested in state school and Indy, what sort of price parents find acceptable, or what's the 'norm' for a day trip. I'm guessing state school trips are subsidised by the school, but maybe not these days. I'm involved in a business looking to open up to school groups, but just not sure it's fin...

School trips

Hi Mums, just wanted to ask how much you pay for school trips? I'm thinking farm day out sort of thing where your children are led and taught as well as participating and exploring. I have no idea what is reasonable for this sort of thing and whether the school makes a contribution on top of what th...

Help where to shop for clothes

Please help me! I really need some suggestions as to where to shop for new clothes. I'm 40 SAHM, so casual but I do like to look casual in a smart sort of way. I'm not one of those people who looks good in whatever they throw on. If it's not fitting in the right places, I look like a troll :| So I'm...

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! 4 year old still in nappies

You say the child isn't safe. Well if that's the case you have a duty to report it. However I'm confused why, if the child is in danger that you're bothered about trivialities such as the child pooping in a nappy and using a dummy. Neither may be desirable but if the child is caught up in a horrid s...

Re: washer dryer that actually dries?

I agree separate is best, but if you don't want to take up the space, I've found AEG to be very good (unlike other brands we've had before which were rubbish at drying) Ours was about £950 from John Lewis. The cycles are slow (both for washing and drying) but I can actually say it does both very well.

Wet room corian or HiMacs

Hi there

Has anyone had Corian or Hi Macs installed in a Wet Room? How does it compare cost wise to tiling and are you happy with it? Also does anyone know of companies locally that supply and install? Tks

Re: Smugbook?

I think it's more important to ask yourself why a friends picture on facebook stirs up such feelings for you? Examine your own life and ask why you feel dissatisfied and what you need to do to change that. Would their lifestyle make you happy? I also use facebook mostly for groups that I'm intereste...

Re: Left ceiling height 190cm

190 would be far too low (surely against building regs?) If someone is 6ft, fairly common, that's 183cm. They would have to crouch right down to get through the doorways!

Re: What to burn in our fireplace

You can burn logs in certain stoves that are approved for burning wood in smokeless zones. However I find wood a pain compared to smokeless coal. It burns quickly so needs loading frequently or the fire will go out. Invariably take my eye off it, or go out and fire has burnt out. Also you need so mu...

Re: Stabbing at Southfields Academy, staff barricade doors

Cripes, we were there for our swimming lesson exactly an hour after this happened. There wasn't a peep about this, no police cars, unusual activity, nothing. I was wandering around with my toddlers while son had his lesson. Thought the staff at the door weren't very attentive, now I know why!
