Re: Disastrous change to Wandsworth Planning

Does this have any effect for those wishing to put balconies off the back of existing pod rooms? Ie flattening out the roof. This seems to be a new trend. Would Wandsworth allow that?

Re: Henry Cavendish & Rutherford House schools

Jellie don't worry about not getting a reply from the office.  If you have emailed or called to say which open morning/afternoon you want to go along to then that's all that is needed.  I never got a reply when going through the same thing last year but they had my name when I arrived. We've been ve...

Re: Get your education questions answered

Isn't that a rather strange argument to make SW12Pops if you follow it through? Even if you accept that with the same baseline intelligence a privately educated pupil will do better at school than a state one (I don't, the evidence doesn't support it either), you argue that the privately educated on...

Re: Trinity St Mary's School Balham

We have been offered a place at TSM's nursery - I have been to look around and it seemed lovely. I just wondered if anyone else had any views on the nursery? I find it so hard to tell from a brief visit so any personal experiences of pros and maybe cons would be great.

Re: Ravenstone vs Rutherford House primaries

Yes that’s a fair point. Better to have put something just in case. Catchments do seem to fluctuate a lot.

Re: Ravenstone vs Rutherford House primaries

We are going through the same thought process. Leaning towards Rutherford I think for the same reasons but they both seem like really great options. I’d be interested to know parents’ thoughts. I also wonder what people do about the form. Should you fill out all 6 options? Unless catchments shrink a...

Re: Honest feedback on Balham for a family?

I think the prices and desirability of places in the Hyde Farm area certainly went up due the schools there. I don't think the same is true for either Ravenstone or Alderbrook. Ravenstone had a wobble a couple of years go after getting a 'requires improvement' rating and whilst I think it's recovere...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

Just a thought on this that it would be odd for TfL to put a route to the government, even if it was only for costings, that wasn't their preferred route? Especially given on the Tooting vs Balham point I think it's accepted it's more expensive to go to Tooting, although nowhere near as bad as they ...

Re: Cross Rail 2 & Balham what next ?

The business case has been with the government since March. So nothing will happen now until the government green light it or not, as the case may be. At the moment TfL has no real clue when the government will make that decision. But given all the MPs are about to have their long summer holiday it'...

Re: Balham: living near the railway tracks: how noisy?

They're pretty often, including Gatwick express, and as mum to monkey said you get the heavier trains over night. When we lived closer to the railway we could feel those. I was used to it while there (and for me train noise is much less offensive than road noise somehow) but now really appreciate be...

Re: Can we measure distance with the Council's official measurement system?

Afraid I don't know that. I'd be interested in the answer though! It's not something I asked the council so perhaps they could explain if asked to.

Re: Talk to me about commuting from Balham

I agree with the above. Tube is very busy 8-8.30 but you can get on first or second train usually. I tend to get on slightly later 8.40/50ish and it's much more civilised then. Might even get a seat at Stockwell. It is very quick into the city. Balham is certainly a lot better than Clapham stations....

Re: Can we measure distance with the Council's official measurement system?

I happen to have called the Wandsworth admissions team about this very point today. You can email them with your address and the schools you're interested in and they will tell you the distance. I was told this might not be exactly the same as the final one used for admissions, but more accurate tha...
