Re: Which new bar to All Bar One empty slot in MArch?

It’s going to be called The Red setter

With any luck, they’ll see sense and realise it’s not in Clapham, and therefore correct their website before they open!

Re: Chalkboard on Northcote Road

Like QT toys, I think Chalkboard is excellent value for money. It has a huge selection of pocket money toys that my children can buy themselves, as well as the fantastic selection of bigger toys, games and activities that no other shops stock. And as others said, their advice and help is unrivalled-...

Re: Thai takeaway suggestions

Soi Thai on Northcote Road (next to Franca Manca) is head and shoulders above any other local Thai restaurants
Great food and great value, I hope they stick around long term because that site has had a really high turnover of tenants over the years

Re: Thomas's Clapham Ballot Rigged?

It’s not ‘owned by a PE company’ A PE company has taken a minority share in the last few weeks As far as I’m aware, the only trust-owned schools locally are Finton and Hornsby. Both not without their own issues, and charging very similar fees (and making identical fee hikes) to the schools owned by ...

Re: Thomas's Clapham Ballot Rigged?

Tutoring children before exams isn’t unique to Thomas’s! It has become the norm now at pretty much every state and primary school in the area, especially before exams. Children are being tutored in core subjects ahead of the Transfer test for state secondaries now, let alone before 11+ and 13+ exams...

Brilliant local nursery with extra places

The excellent Broomwood Montessori nursery on the corner of Kyrle Road and Broomwood road has been given permission by Ofsted to expand its age range and can now accept children from 18 months upwards, and has placed available from September. It’s a brilliant little nursery, and I originally found i...

Re: Friend copying my house design room by room.

I think we can blame media and social media for a bit of this… Instagram is full of accounts showcasing interiors, with full lists of where everything came from specifically to ‘recreate the look’ Pinterest exists solely to show us pictures of other peoples lives to copy for our own There are tens o...

Re: Would you do a side return build if pregnant? How bad are they?

We did exactly this on 2021! The builders started demolishing our kitchen when I was 6 weeks pregnant with our second, and finished everything when I was 7 months. We used a local firm called Reliance Design and build, and they were absolutely brilliant. It won’t let me post a link but they are on I...

Re: Electrolysis hair removal

Electrolysis is old technology, and newer laser hair removal is much, much better. You need to make sure it is proper laser and not IPL, which is sometimes incorrectly marketed as laser. I have used Premier Laser in Clapham Common (near the little Waitrose) and Therapie clinic near Clapham junction ...

Re: Ex owes money

I think your mum is probably best off speaking to a property solicitor but was there not a charge placed on the house before it was sold? are the exes threats to hide money made verbally or in writing? As the other poster said, £10k isn’t a huge amount of money in the grand scheme, and would easily ...

Re: After school nanny eating our food

All the nannies I’ve employed have had standard nanny contracts as provided by nanny agencies and payroll companies, and they have all included some wording along the lines of: “Whilst you are working, you will be entitled to prepare yourself no more than one meal per day using the food and faciliti...

Re: Local caterer for a dinner party

We’ve used Emily Preece and she is excellent

She brings a waiter, and between them, they set the table, cook and serve and the food, and then tidy up

The food is excellent - definitely restaurant standard with flexible menu options

Re: Botox questions and recommendations

The Skin Emporium clinic on Northcote road opposite the Bolingbroke is excellent

I’ve tried a few places locally (including dentists) and this is by far the best - very natural looking and very knowledgeable staff.

Re: Seeking swimming lessons for 4 yr old in a deep pool

We had the same issue and have ended up going to Vauxhall leisure centre.

The teacher on Saturdays (Chloe) used to teach at Alderbrook and is absolutely brilliant, patient, kind

Highly recommend her, although it is a bit of a trek to get there
