Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

Right now there are no real updates. Transport for London (TfL) have put a business case for Crossrail 2 to the Government, but it has not been confirmed/approved. The scheme was missing from the Conservative election manifesto and the Queens Speech, which may or may not mean anything. And the Trans...

Re: How many former Tory voters in Battersea or Merton will be voting differently this time?

Some specific information for Wimbledon: The law practice of Wimbledon Labour candidate Imran Uddin has been seized by the Solicitors Regulation Authority because "there is reason to suspect dishonesty". http://www.wimbledonguardian.co.uk/news/15330332.UPDATE__Wimbledon_Labour_general_election_candi...

Re: How many former Tory voters in Battersea or Merton will be voting differently this time?

Since I last posted, Theresa May and her manifesto seems to have managed to destroy her campaign pretty effectively. The dementia tax has gone down like a lead balloon. And I'd expect many on here would be worried by the independent Institute for Fiscal Studies calculating that the Tory manifesto is...

Re: Anyone personally recommend a career/life coach?

My wife is a careers and executive coach based in Raynes Park / Wimbledon. She trades as Meadow View Coaching https://www.meadowviewcoaching.co.uk/. She doesn't tell me details of her coaching (confidentiality) but I know she has had some really positive outcomes for those she has worked with. What ...

Re: General election - vote for staying in EU?

So, to those wondering who is actually in second place, here are two more ways you can generally tell. 1) Count how many leaflets you get from each party. The more leaflets, the harder they are trying, and thus the better they think the chance they have. A political party will rarely send out lots o...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

TfL will publish a "response to consultation" in June. This will probably be a fairly boring document not of much interest. The next real event will be in late summer (October perhaps) when a new consultation is expected. It is likely that consultation will have TfL's "final" preferred route choice....

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

On TfL's move from Tooting Broadway to Balham it is good to look at motivations. Tooting Broadway has better Northern Line relief, better regeneration effects and better access benefits, notably St.Georges. Of the two, it is the clear winner in transport terms. So, why change? The ground conditions ...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

As thread readers may know, I am pushing for Crossrail 2 to be routed via Earlsfield, not Balham. Such a route avoids any risk of making the Northern Line worse, however it does not, of course, relieve the Northern Line. I have now published the extended version of the Swirl plan, known as "Swirl-Ma...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

Just a small reminder. Petitions and Surveys are all very well, but the only thing that really counts is the TfL consultation. If you have an opinion, you've not achieved anything unless you've responded to the *official* consultation.

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

I know of no public data justifying TfL's claim of Northern Line relief. However, such data will exist as TfL do extensive computer modelling on topics like that. I doubt there will have been surveys however. To mumof2balham, just to note that by the time CR2 opens, both the Central Line and Norther...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

Hi mumof2balham, thanks for reading my analysis. I certainly don't envy a commute from Clapham South on the Northern Line - my time on the Northern was from a station a lot further south. "why would someone bother going via Angel to go to Bank?! Taking C2 to Tottenham CR and change for the Central L...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

I asked TfL at a consultation event as to where the shaft would be on the Tooting to Clapham Junction route. They don't know exactly, because they are not actively investigating it. However, they indicated that previous high level investigations had looked at a site on a "quiet road" by the prison a...

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

It does not say where (as TfL is backing Balham). But look for the small black circles on the proposed route map. (Factsheet s12, last page). The one on the Tooting to Clapham Junction route (dashed line) is shown to be slightly to the west of that on the Balham to Clapham Junction line (solid line).

Re: CROSSRAIL 2 VENTILATION SHAFT (AGAIN)

As I noted on the Wandsworth Common website, those who oppose the shaft only have two choices: 1) Find a different shaft location on the route between Balham and Clapham Junction (because a shaft is considered to be a safety requirement, and not optional) 2) Argue for a different route - Tooting Bro...
