Re: Choosing between schools

There is a lot you don't say about your son but should be your major considerations - is he mainly academic or very sporty / musical / artistic? Is he shy or confident and boisterous? I know all these schools - either through personal experience or my close friends' direct personal experience - and ...

Re: How big is the academic gap between Honeywell and Newton Prep?

My son was at Honeywell and got into a top indy school. He wasn't top of his class, just comfortably in the middle Yes, we tutored from year 5 but only one hour a week with quite a lot of additional work and working with practice papers at home. From my experience, Honeywell is a gorgeous school wit...

Re: School discussion censorship

I'm sorry but I'm not able to send the link to a thread that has been deleted and no longer exists... I didn't think of saving it at the time and there is no way now to search for something that has been removed. I've been on your forum, under one username or another, for over 8 years now and this i...

Re: School discussion censorship

Hi. Thanks for responding. I was personally on a primary schools admissions thread a few years ago which, understandably, prompted some heated (although not abusive or inappropriate) discussion about the catchments, new council policies related to primary place of residence, 800m moving out limit et...

School discussion censorship

Today is the day when Wandsworth secondary school places are announced. For the last few years, I had a big problem with the fact that Nappyvalleynet is censoring related content and removing or disabling comments on any relevant posts. Am I the only one? As an ex Head of Comms for a very well know ...

Re: Qualitas Basements - disdain for residents

I think it's never easy for the neighbours who have to live through it Mrs October although, I must say, Estbury did our neighbours' basement last year and they were very considerate and careful. The path was very rarely blocked and they were very polite and apologetic on the few occasions when it w...

Re: Qualitas Basements - disdain for residents

I couldn't agree more. They are awful. This is the photo I took last week. We've actually complained to the council a couple of times and I know a few other residents have too. The council confirmed that they don't have permission to block the pathway and asked to be notified as soon as they do it a...

Re: Top ten places to eat?

We went there a couple of years ago and it was a disappointing experience - both the food and the service. It felt like yet another impersonal attempt to make money by giving a big chef's name to a new restaurant. I would never go back with so many amazing places on our doorstep.

Re: Husband has no friends - help

ps. I should probably point out here that our children are not monsters :-) and have friends so highly unlikely they put people off!

Re: Husband has no friends - help

No, he gets frustrated about it Flowermummy. He is also very social and loves entertaining, is happy to do all the hard work, hosting and so on, but we seem to have a lot of friendly acquaintances but no close friends. Every time we try to take things to the next level, invite people round or sugges...

Re: Husband has no friends - help

I could have written your post WorriedWifey. I also worry about my husband having no friends at all. He is a really nice man, caring, loyal and laid back but he has noone to go out with for a beer or do something together at weekends. He grew up in a lovely but small town outside London where he had...

Re: What DO we want on Northcote Road???

I think Made in Italy is opening where Holy Drinker used to be Julian. There is a sign already outside. There used to be one on Kings Road in the past - it was a great place. Hope the standards will remain the same! We went to Dove on Sunday (as Hennessey's were already closed) and asked what was co...
