Re: Bolingbroke's head boy Yahya appeared in a Sky News documentary and debate, The Coronavirus Generation last wee

Really impressive young man.  Any university that doesn't find a way to award him a bursary needs its head seeing to.

Re: Lost job. To pay thousands of pounds to break rental contract?

Totally agree re getting proper advice - one option to explore - if you have to pay anyway then serve notice and stay during the 12 month notice period instead of paying for somewhere else as well.

Re: Recommending Wash Doctors for your car

@Lola123 "the guy who cleaned the car was really quite aggressive in asking for a tip".  The Wash Doctors guys we have used have never asked for a tip.  You can pay a tip via the app afterwards if you are satisfied with the service.

Recommending Wash Doctors for your car

If you want your car washed or valeted, then this is a really strong recommendation for Wash Doctors  https://www.washdoctors.co.uk/ .  We have just had an excellent job done on two cars.  It can all be arranged very easily on their app.  And they pride themselves on the washers keeping a decent sha...

Re: Husband is saying no to us lending my brother money

I don't know if this helps, and it is certainly not intended in any way to be judgmental, but I have been involved in cash being distributed around a family, though not against the background of COVID.  You don't say anything about your circumstances - have you got children?  Are you and / or your h...

5G Rubbish

We've just had a leaflet put through our door apparently promoting this outfit  https://actionagainst5g.org/ .  Make up your own mind, but do note that with the exception of Michael Mansfield (surprise, surprise) not a single individual is identified, there is no address, the organisation isn't eith...

Important Re: Covid Testing

Home Antibody tests have just been banned by the MHRA (today 27 May) because the pinprick blood taken may give a false reading.  If you have had one of these tests then it may be worth finding out more before you rely on the result. Graeme Tunbridge, the MHRA's Director of Devices, Graeme Tunbridge,...

Re: White Stuff Northcote Road due to close - please help

gkc:  I get that, and I think there need to be compromises.  But (1) White Stuff is a bad example on which to make a stand and (2) we - all of us - are complicit in this.  I knew Andy who ran Northcote Music pretty well.  He told me a story of someone who came in to buy a keyboard for his daughter, ...

Re: White Stuff Northcote Road due to close - please help

According to the last accounts filed at Companies House White Stuff is an international company with a turnover of £148 million.  The highest paid director earned £422,000.  They've been losing money for 2 - 3 years and started cutting staff in mid 2019.  They may well be using COVID as an excuse t...

La Baita Open

La Baita , the Italian cafe at the Bandstand on Clapham Common is open for takeaways.  We had a lovely ciabatta sandwich today sitting on the grass!  It is well organised with sensible social distancing precautions and deserves supporting.  We have no connection with it .... ie this is not a self i...

Re: can i take my family overseas away from elderly grandparents?

This may not be a very helpful answer, but there has been a lot of talk about whether the COVID crisis is maybe providing people with the opportunity to re-think their priorities.  Do you really need the additional income / standard of living that would presumably come with your new job?  Won't it b...

Re: Covid Testing -Is this a Scam ? The London Medical Laboratory Ltd

Which antibody test did they offer?  Was it approved by a credible regulator?  Most of them don't work (they return too many false positive / negatives ie their specificity and sensitivity aren't good enough).
