Re: Looking for a good financial advisor

I've never used personally them, but Killiks has been at it for years - I doubt if they would have survived if they weren't OK.  And I've never heard the faintest whiff of scandal about them.  I guess it must be worth a chat with them.

Re: Young teen struggling with school entrance process

Mellymell123 You may find the attached hard to accept if you are not familiar with the research, but it is, I assure you, true.  So the outcome may not in the end matter too much. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/top-schools-add-nothing-to-grades-says-geneticist-bmz8vpn5x The scientist quoted (and...

Re: Friend wants to bring another family friend on our holiday

If the person from the USA really is an "an old family friend" visiting, then it may be completely unrealistic to expect your friend to just say to someone who has come across the Atlantic " see you in a week, hope you can take care of yourself ".  Would you do that to a friend of yours?  So the opt...

Re: Looking for a good joiner to do a front door

Boonkoh

Billy Kikidis on 07538 580397 for a job like that. Honest, will do an excellent job and reasonable cost (but won’t be the cheapest).

Re: Piano teacher

Try asking Northcote Music - they know all the local musicians.  And if you really want them to learn the piano be careful about pushing them into exams.

Re: Equity release - bit grumpy brother is suggesting it

Addled - I think you've lost the plot.  There are answers to what equity release is, how it works, what the terms are etc, but there isn't an answer as to whether or not it is a good idea in a particular case, precisely because it does depend on your attitude to the equity in the property.  Some chi...

Re: Equity release - bit grumpy brother is suggesting it

Could I add a couple more comments, in the light of some responses. Firstly, it is correct that the interest accumulates (in many ways the whole point of equity release is not having to make repayments) but in the case I have been looking at the rate was not unreasonable - 3.76% - and it is only cha...

Re: Equity release - bit grumpy brother is suggesting it

Curiously enough I have just been involved with supporting and helping an elderly friend who is doing an equity release. First of all, if they do do it, then make absolutely sure that they have a reputable adviser and decent solicitor, as there are sharks out there, even though the market has been c...

Re: Consent to let in clause on Share of Freehold lease?

Obviously take Gregsons' advice, but the usual structure would be for a company (which you may have to set up) to own the freehold, and for you and the other resident to enter into 999 year leases with the company ie the company is technically the landlord.  And the company's shares would be owned e...

Re: Consent to let in clause on Share of Freehold lease?

Consent from the superior landlord to let is not unusual, but I suggest you get legal advice.  If the consent to let is included then I suggest (1) that there should be a provision that consent should not be unreasonably withheld and (2) that the let should be for a minimum of say 3 months to preven...

Re: Stop using schools as polling stations

Shock horror, facility owned and paid for by the public used occasionally for vital public function.  Just be grateful that you live in a democracy.
