Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

I don't dispute that at all. But you originally said I have not known children move to other schools down the road although I have known moves to happen the other way so I was just pointing out that I know of 2 who have done just that in the last 6 months. If you post to correct 'speculation' it is ...

Re: Alleyn's Junior School in The Sunday Times Parent Power 2016

Not to disparage Alleyn's but the Times top 100 prep schools is actually a list of the top 100 prep schools that sit SATS - which is in fact the minority of those schools: "Prep schools whose pupils take Standard Assessment Tests (Sats) are ranked on their performance in Standard Assessment Tes...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

There are lots of local schools with an 8+ intake. Northcote Lodge and Broomwood Hall Upper School start then. Then there are the bigger schools: Dulwich College, JAPS, DPL, KCJS, Westminster Under, Colet Court etc.... all of which have a formal intake at 8+. It's quite a common entry point (althoug...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

Don J and Flowermummy - I am sure your kids will be absolutely fine. As you say it is a minority that this happens to. I don't think it does happen at all schools though. Never heard of it in relation to Broomwood, HH, Finton or Eaton House. Only Thomas' and (to a lesser extent) Newton. People certa...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

What would put my mind at rest would be Thomas' publishing detailed leavers' information like all the other schools do. Instead of doing the reverse and removing the little they did used to reveal when it is questioned. Interesting about Emanuel - I do wonder which came first though: it being no lon...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

Well, we'll have to take your word for that dudette now that Thomas' have pulled their offers/scholarships figures from their website. Quite a few Thomas' kids definitely take up Emmanuel offers each year and it and SCH are usually thought of as requiring the same standard/being similarly (un)compet...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

HH's 2016 results are on their website in full including both offers and places accepted ;) http://www.hornsbyhouse.org.uk/destination-schools. For 51 leavers - 14 Alleyns offers, 13 JAGS offers, 6 Wimbledon High. To have almost half of your girls getting offers to JAGS is pretty good going especial...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

The poster who wrote about a friend of a friend who knows ‘someone’ who has children being managed out. Please can you elaborate further – you can’t just make a statement like that, with a view to obviously put prospective parents off, without giving more detail. If you have constructive feedback a...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

Wow - that's really interesting. The leavers info has changed just this week and the details I quoted further up the thread (which were taken from two pdfs giving 11+ and 13+ results for 2015) have now co-incidentally disappeared. Very curious indeed. Prep schools have always lived or died by their ...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

Well I got the figures from the Thomas' website (2015 figures as they don't seem to have published 2016 yet) and they include both 11+ and 13 leavers. The Broomwood figures also cover leavers at both points. Surely broadly comparable at least? As for the 80 kids per year again from Thomas' website w...

I understand that but it doesn't make a differenve in terms of comparing the various schools results as the same will be true at all of them.

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

I'm always slightly intrigued by Thomas's reputation as the most 'academic' of the local schools. Looking at its latest published leavers destinations, it got a lower proportion of scholarships (16 in a year of approx 80 kids) than Broomwood Hall (21 for 57 leavers) or Hornsby House (which had a who...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

I know several families who have felt that their children were 'managed out' of Thomas' for being amongst the lower achievers. I doubt that the school is actively doing this but there appears to be a feeling amongst some parents that children at the lower end of the academic scale as not as well ser...
