Re: State Secondary Schools - are they good?

Btw I know families in the selective stream at Burntwood and are very happy with it ( but I see you have a boy) . Ernest Bevin's Ofsted has gone way down from its Outstanding to Requires Improvement

Re: Tramp in local coffee shop

Humanity wins in this thread I remember a homeless man who would come to a cafe I waitressed at when I was a youngster. He was witty and oozed charisma although sometimes stand very offish. He had an incredible back story which led to him being down in his luck in later life. A few years after he pa...

Re: Second hand baby bits? Is it the done thing?

It might not be the "done thing" but it should be! Think of the earth's resources you are saving as well as the money. To be honest I've hardly sold off any stuff I no longer needed but have passed on gear to friends and donated to charities like Little Village. I have sold one of those ba...

Re: Am I Right To Be Miffed About This Lack Of Consideration? Your Opinions Please!

I lent out a Deuter child carrier to a local mum on Facebook who had asked to borrow one. it was very loved and got great use out of it walking on holidays while carrying a child and cost 300 quid and although my children had outgrown it i wanted it to go to g...

Re: dishonest about bursary application

In your shoes I wouldn't as they could be borderline eligible , from what I've seen the bursary system is quite vague. I can see why you'd be annoyed - for us as well paying fees for 2 will have a significant impact on us and would come with sacrifices. But we know for certain we wouldn't be eligibl...

Re: Emmanuel school

Totally agree with you about a well rounded education and not just academics. My sister (and husband) studied Physics at Imperial and she works for the Institute of Physics alingside teaching and has led projects on encouraging girls to take up Physics at A level and university so quite aware of the...

Re: Emmanuel school

I loved lots about Emanuel school when we visited and I know 2 men from primary school who went there when it was boys only and have been very successful and happy in their education and careers and well rounded and good people. But one thing bothered me though. When we were touring the classrooms I...
