Re: Good resort for late Easter skiing?

The last few years have been pretty hit and miss with most resorts. our current favourite (Courmayeur) has had a pretty rough time for the last couple of years, but had a cracking season this year.  As a general rule of thumb I would say to just go as high as you can - Tignes/Val Thorens in France, ...

Re: The new £3.9m Food waste collections - a massive cost to the taxpayer, this is how to return your bins to the counci

I have to say that I’m with Chorister on this one I’m afraid readysteadycook. As a regular poster, I often see posts from frequent posters that I agree or disagree with, and mostly keep myself to myself and let people vent (which is their prerogative). Unfortunately this is not one of those times, a...

Re: Are Miele machines worth the extra??

I have to agree with Flowermummy, we have a Miele washing machine and a Miele drier and both have lasted for years and years.  We also put them in our rental properties at work.  Yes, they are a big investment, but in this case you really do get what you pay for.

Re: Red Setter, has anyone been?

I went to the launch last night and it's fabulous - a massive step up from All Bar One which had needed a refurb for years.  They have moved the bar to the other side so that you now effectively have four or five different areas you can sit in, as opposed to just one vast room.  The kitchen is now s...

Re: Property Buying Agent

Hi Tulips, This is exactly the service we offer, however only in London, so unfortunately I can't help you personally.  There is however a relatively new portal that can help you, it's called First in the Door and only takes the best of the best buying agents.  The website is www.firstinthedoor.com ...

Re: Battersea Power Station's Light Festival returns this month

I have to say that sadly I agree with Gemima, it really is not great - a few light installations, but hardly what I would consider a 'festival'.  Sadly it was the same last year too - massively underwhelming.

Re: Recommendations needed - Conveyancing solicitors

I run a buying agency and our ‘go to’ solicitor is Andy Pitcairn from William Sturges, and has been for many years. In our experience conveyancing solicitors seem to fall into two camps - ones who want to show their clients how clever they are by picking holes and finding faults in every transaction...

Re: Girls secondaries - what's the real vibe?

I know you haven't mentioned it, but have you thought about Woldingham?  We looked at all the ones you mention for our two girls, and then someone suggested Woldingham.  Yes, it's a 25 train journey from Clapham Junction, but the school itself is superb - set in 700 acres and with its own train stat...

Re: Is skiing over New Year a good idea?

Hi Cheesestraws, I have skied in Chamonix for many years, and my brother has a house there.  It's a great resort as it is a normally operating town as opposed to simply a 'resort', so there is lots to see and do.  The downside is that the ski areas are actually in four different areas along the vall...

Re: Beginner Cooking courses for teens

Our daughter went to some of the courses by The Avenue Cookery School in Wandsworth and they were brilliant.  She did a full week's course which wasn't cheap, but she learned loads and the people there are brilliant - I think it's a family business, so all very personal.

Re: Caudalie is closing - sad news for Northcote road

Don't forget Paperchase, All Bar One, the pet shop, Keihl's and The Paint House Julian - tough times ahead I suspect.  Oh, and a window shop that doesn't seem to want to move in!! Apparently they want £300k a year in rent for All Bar One.  Add that to £150k in rates and I suspect that it will sit em...

Re: Solicitor for neighbour dispute

I would agree with both comments above.  Any neighbour dispute has to be declared should either you or your neighbour ever come to sell, and buyers and lenders take a pretty dim view of such things.  Unless it is absolutely essential to engage a solicitor in a neighbour dispute, I would avoid it at ...

Re: Stone or wood for patio

I have both!  I have Ipe decking that looks a bit like the picture below, leading on to York stone.  To be honest, the decking is far more slippery when wet than the stone, which is grippy no matter the weather (well, apart from snow!!).  Neither the decking nor the york stone get too hot. I agree t...
