Re: Worried for my daughter and her about to be trust fund fiancee

PS I have used DMH Stallard for conveyancing and for wills. They will be able to help, too. They have offices in the City and in Guildford.

Re: Worried for my daughter and her about to be trust fund fiancee

as @btw_mum said, keeping receipts is key. If they both contribute to a house deposit, to renovations etc, she should religiously store receipts of all the payments she has made. And it's also good practice to each have their own bank account into which salary is paid, and then a joint account for h...

Re: Worried for my daughter and her about to be trust fund fiancee

I suppose this is some kind of discretionary trust fund, where someone decides when / whether /  how much to give to the beneficiaries, but the beneficiaries are not entitled to 100% of the assets whenever they want? What do you mean when you ask if your daughter would be protected? I'm simplifying ...

Please recommend accountants for self assessment (salaried employee)

Can you recommend an accountant to help with a self-assessment tax return? My tax affairs are fairly straightforward. Most of my income comes from salary. Basically I just want someone to double check the part on the pension allowance carry-over, and the taxation of some ETFs. No property income. I'...

Re: External wall insulation in Wandsworth: any experience dealing with the council? No approval needed?

A friend who is an architect told us that Wandsworth wants a planning application even for external wall insulation at the back of a house, not visible from the street. Not all councils want it, so it is not clear to us if Wandsworth is overstepping its authority or not. This is such a shame. At a t...

Re: Wandsworth test

Does Wandsworth publish any statistics on the percentiles? E.g. a score of 255 would correspond to (I'm making this up) the 95th percentile, i.e. only the top 5% of pupils achieves this grade?

Re: Husband won't wear helmet on electric bike

PS Also, as a provocation: if cyclists shouldn't wear helmets on urban 20mph roads, why should motorcyclists, on the same roads? The difference between cruising speeds (probably 11-14 mph for cyclists vs 20ish mph for motorcyclists) does, I would argue, probably make riding motorcycles safer, becaus...

Re: Husband won't wear helmet on electric bike

It really is very, very simple. There are very good reasons to oppose mandatory helmets, like in Australia. That puts people off cycling, makes them think it's more dangerous than it is, and doesn't distinguish between a 10 minute ride in the park vs 2 hours of bombing down country lanes at full spe...

Re: Why can't my children go to a Catholic school of the council fund them?

I frankly find out of place calling the jesuits a sect. They are the largest Catholic religious order dating back to the XVI century and with a vital role in education for centuries. Best not to get into all the cases of sexual abuse covered up by the Jesuits in their "vital role in education&...

Re: Why can't my children go to a Catholic school of the council fund them?

@muddyboots, are you for real??? " So I wish to reverse the argument! Why is a child in a state school treated differently just because it happens to attend a religious STATE school. If they allow state funded religious schools they should find them equally. Or get rid of them. This is unfair t...
