Re: Hairdresser for teenage girl's hair and cost please.

Try Chameleon on Abbeville Road. They have lower rates for teenagers.

Re: Lack of state school places

I'm really glad this thread hasn't been closed. I really hated the thread a few months ago encouraging local families from the private schools to take places in state schools with no intention to take them to throw the councils into disarray. Important these people do not hijack the issues given how...

Re: Lack of state school places

My apologies if you meant lack of school places for people who can no longer afford the fees for their child/ child and siblings. Because this may well be the case in the upper years but not sp for thoseooking to enter at year 7. I really hope the journalist focuses on more normal British families w...

Re: Lack of state school places

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2024/mar/01/london-secondary-school-applications-down-by-4000-after-fall-in-birthrate It is a demographic trend that the number of children in the capital is dropping. We have talked about the factors on Nappy Valley before. " I know people whose life has b...

Re: Lack of state school places

Just simply untrue. In fact, the popular state secondaries in my area: Graveney selective, Chestnut Grove Academy and Bollingbroke Academy have been easier than ever to secure a place due to less children of that age needing a school place. The same even goes for once extremely tight catchment areas...

Re: Laundry facilities. Cellar or first floor?

Dimelda, not everyone has space not to have it in the kitchen. We have a separated laundry and on the first floor and very convenient. Previous home the washer/ dryer was in the kitchen. Would definitely not want to go up and down a lot by having it in the cellar if you have the option, first floor ...

Re: Bayo Dosunmu: Lambeth Council chief charged with drug and driving offences

Remember the Low Traffic Neighbourhood they had to abolish.

Look on the bright side, he will remember their birthdays now

I don't think it is embarrassing and so many people have them.

Re: Is apple cider vinegar good for weight loss?

I have heard it is good for gut health and lowers inflammation and kills nasty bacteria like e coli. I don't think it causes weight loss directly but it has got health benefits which could probably aid weight loss. I've had it diluted on an empty stomach for food poisoning and it does restore it. I ...

Re: Yeah but cyclists

Last week I got sworn at by a cyclist for crossing the road . :? Apparently I didn't "f***ing watch where I was going" because he wanted to not stop at the junction for pedestrians. Middle aged man in lycra and at top speed, probably on his way to work as was I or possibly Richmond park as...

Re: URGENT ACTION REQUIRED : The ridiculous Labour 'Private School VAT' scam ...

On a wider point, local primary schools may be seeing falling rolls that is not the case for secondary schools. In London there are often several schools within a short distance though not necessarily of the calibre you might choose for your child. Away from London, especially in semi rural areas t...

Re: Sins of the parents carrying through?

Like your title suggests my only thoughts are -poor child and yes the sins of parents do carry through .
In your shoes I'd let them be friends but keep my guard up and have play dates at your home. Its not the child's fault after all, is it?

Re: Clapham prep - Diversity

My neighbours have Indian heritage and send their children to Hornsby House. I don't think it's an issue but just the demographics of this area that send their children to private school. I do agree the more Central and West you are the private schools will be more diverse but will also have super w...

Re: Clapham South violent assault

It was shared to me from Next door. The person said said her husband had been attacked randomly at around midnight leaving Clapham South tube and a police investigation said it was a " gang initiation " attack. It is shocking but I hear that is a rite of passage to be a gang member. I have...
