I just recently flew to NZ with a two and a half year old and a five year old, without any help - mad I know, but it actually went very well. Perhaps because I was expecting the worst! And we went all the way to Wellington! I would second the ipad comment, it was a life saver - or perhaps 11 months ...

Hmm, the one time I've been there the woman who served me was lovely. She did a beautiful job wrapping my flowers and even gave my daughter a sweet little posy to take home.
Must have been a different woman surely!

Karate/Martial arts for kids

Hello, I'm trying to find some karate or other kind of martial arts classes for my five year old. So far I've found Kenshukai Karate at Oak Lodge School but they only seem to do Tuesday evenings 6.30-7.30pm which is a bit late for us and Peewee Karate at St Barnabas Church, Clapham Common North Side...

We had the same problem when we had our daughter two years ago as we also hadn't been in London long and had no family here. I knew a few people who could >probably< take care of our daughter but no one who lived nearby and would definitely be available 24/7! Luckily my mum was able to come and stay...

Just in case anyone was wondering, I think these distances are from the first round of offers in April. By the time school starts and waiting lists have moved the distances go out a little further - but not that much!
