Re: UNBELIEVABLE PARKING FINE FARCE

I just booked a parking suspension for next week as we are moving abroad and Wandsworth coucnil say you have to arrange the suspension a full five clear working days beforehand, apparently so they have enough time to inform everyone on the street. So it does seem a bit unfair people aren't actually ...

Re: Long Haul Flight with 11 month old

I just recently flew to NZ with a two and a half year old and a five year old, without any help - mad I know, but it actually went very well. Perhaps because I was expecting the worst! And we went all the way to Wellington! I would second the ipad comment, it was a life saver - or perhaps 11 months ...

Re: BRIXTON / STOCKWELL / CLAPHAM NORTH NURSERY

I'm not sure if it would be too far from you but not far from Clapham North is the Anglo Spanish Nursery on Clapham Manor street. My two daughters have gone there and absolutely love it. The staff are so lovely, really enthusiastic and totally involved with the kids, the whole place has a real famil...

Re: Flower Stall on the Northcote Road

Hmm, the one time I've been there the woman who served me was lovely. She did a beautiful job wrapping my flowers and even gave my daughter a sweet little posy to take home.
Must have been a different woman surely!

Re: Belleville now an academy, where to apply for admission?

Thanks very much!

Re: Belleville now an academy, where to apply for admission?

I'm quite confused about what converting to an academy really means. I've heard that it will give the school more autonomy from Wandsworth council, more money and more financial security but I don't know what that really boils down to or how things will, or possibly could change with regards to the ...

Karate/Martial arts for kids

Hello, I'm trying to find some karate or other kind of martial arts classes for my five year old. So far I've found Kenshukai Karate at Oak Lodge School but they only seem to do Tuesday evenings 6.30-7.30pm which is a bit late for us and Peewee Karate at St Barnabas Church, Clapham Common North Side...

Re: Micro Farmers Market!!

I think this is a great idea and we would definitely go if it was on a weekend. My only advice would be to let as many people know about it as you can. I remember some time ago a market popped up one day at the Battersea Rise end of Northcote Road and the weather wasn't particularly nice that day so...

Re: What to do with eldest child when you have to give birth?

We had the same problem when we had our daughter two years ago as we also hadn't been in London long and had no family here. I knew a few people who could >probably< take care of our daughter but no one who lived nearby and would definitely be available 24/7! Luckily my mum was able to come and stay...

Re: Recent catchment areas

I'm sure you've probably made sure of this already but you might want to check exactly which entrance to Belleville school they measure the distance from. I originally thought it was the main entrance on Belleville Road which would put us at about 350 metres (according to my calculation on googlemap...

Re: Nurseries in Brixton or Clapham

Not sure if it would be too far away from you but my two little ones are very happy at Anglo-Spanish Nursery on Clapham Manor Street (just off Clapham High Street). We don't have any Spanish ancestry or anything but I'm very happy my daughters are learning Spanish. It's a family run place and the pe...

Re: Padded bras for 7 year olds at Debenhams

Wait a minute, Mumsnet ran a huge campaign agains this sort of thing - 'Let Girls be Girls' (perhaps this is the same one Susiep23 mentions?) which '...aims to curb the premature sexualisation of children by asking retailers to commit not to sell products which play upon, emphasise or exploit their ...

Re: How does the preschool nursery system work in the UK?

Both of my daughters go to a 'full-time' nursery school that is open from 7.30-6pm 48 weeks of the year (and it's very expensive!) so I don't really know much about the shorter hours term-time only nurseries, but am I right in thinking that if you lived close enough to a state school that offers pre...

Re: Recent catchment areas

Just in case anyone was wondering, I think these distances are from the first round of offers in April. By the time school starts and waiting lists have moved the distances go out a little further - but not that much!

Re: Looking for car pull

Hi, when we moved further away from my daughter's nursery an employee of the nursery offered to pick up my daughter on her way to work every morning. We pay her for each pickup and we provide the car seat and we also contribute to petrol which does add up but it makes life SO much easier I think it'...
