Re: 🚨 Wandsworth Council Withdraws Commercial Event Licences for Local Parks

Wandsworth Common is a little different as it is covered by tighter restrictions as it was the outcry over enclosure that lead to its protection in the original 1871 Act which is specific to the Common. I don’t think that The Long Act [which deals with Metropolitan Parklands] repeals the older legis...

Re: Community Fibre

Community Fibre are way more reliable than VM.

VM’s core network is very out of date.

The upstream speed is the killer with CF you get a good fat symmetrical package.

I have CF at home and for business and it is great.

Re: Sound proofing / insulation recommendation pls

Not an easy thing to solve - I’ve soundproofed a good few buildings. - Impact noise - Flanking noise - that goes around the soundproofing in the structure - Directly transmitted noise such as speech. You are taking about impact noise? The issue you have here is the floor boards are nailed to the joi...

Re: Any plans for Wandsworth to increase charges for SUVs?

A Tesla Y is a decent midway. That is from the former owner of a couple of Discovery4s and Range Rovers. No it won’t tow 3500kg and you can’t put a 850kg pallet in the back. I did both of this things at various times. But do you need that in a family car? But it does have a family sized boot (if you...

Re: Fibre broadband (aka FTTP)

There are a number of quite complex reasons why Open Reach build where they are building. In no particular order The first is *perceived* returns based on uptake percentages. OR use a very odd formula for working this out that is based on quite old data. Secondly OR avoids like the plague is areas w...

Re: Electric cars in Wandsworth

I’ve driven fully electric since 2019. I’ve had three EV’s all Tesla Tesla S - nice to drive - very large car - but dated as 1st gen - great fun - stupid fast Tesla X - avoid - terrible mechanicals - physically much larger than a Discovery4 - turns heads with its idiotic Falcon wing doors. It was si...

Re: Smart home

Be prepared the products to be dropped without warning and left unsupported. Think Hive cameras etc. Cloudy has many advantages but the massive disadvantage of Mr X can decide the server no longer makes sense and you own a brick. Personally I recommend using a series of stand alone systems - do you ...

Re: NSL fly tipping fines on behalf of Wandsworth Council

Small Claims Court rulings do not create a precedent. It is highly likely they won’t even send anyone to the hearing or if they do it will be someone who isn’t legally qualified trying to bamboozle you to settle in the court steps because….. I agree this is shakedown stuff based on statics mill evid...

Re: Reckless driver in Stormont Road / Clapham Northside

I’m conflicted I’m a cyclist and I race I race occasionally. I drive a large vehicle to tow for work. However, I’m not an enthusiast in cargo bike for kids. The SUV drivers actions were: on the facts described illegal - didn’t give 1.5m space - used horn aggressively rather than to warn - caused con...

Re: Solicitor for neighbour dispute

I would be very cautious about using a solicitor in this realm: you could well end up spending a ton of money and just have a bigger headache.

It would be useful if you could give a vague outline of the issues as there are many other avenues to pursue first off.

Re: Cost of converting large cellar v digging basement

I assume you mean 6 foot of headroom?

The main cost is the underpinning and steelwork.

One of the smarter companies has substituted electric diggers for expensive workers to keep a lid on run away labour costs.

All construction costs have rocketed but are levelling off now.

Re: Taking pebble dashing off the front of the house

Generally sound advice.

It can be easier to go over the pebbledash with flat render.

However, pebbledash is usually made with hard cement and it doesn’t breathe.

This can be an opportunity for external insulation.

My Victorian house is stucco and I’ve left it alone.

Re: Is it time to ban 4x4s?

I see - so the proposal is to ban all large heavy vehicles? So logically we are going to ban buses, lorries and delivery vehicles too? Yes, that includes the supermarket home delivery vehicles. Gosh the silence - I can hear a pin drop and mums all over nappy valley swallowing hard. Please try Googli...
