Re: Balham or Earlsfield? Pros/cons...

I like both areas and have lived around here for many years. However, I never realised that St Anne's Hill, or Wandsworth Common is classed as Earlsfield? And also thought that Earslfield was a lot cheaper (although that's probably because I wasn't factoring in St Anne's Hill or WC :D )

Re: **How much do you pay your Filipino nanny?**

Horribly pedantic I know but she is a FilipinA. And I agree that the post title is offensive. Tightknit or not, shouldn't their salaries be comparable to any other nationality?

Re: Nurseries in the Nightingale Triangle

I'd recommend the Wainright Montessori on Chestnut Grove, and have also heard that Noah's Ark on Endlesham Road is really good. Hope that helps!

Re: Emmanuel School...

Northcote please - I have at no point criticised people for choosing to go private! I stated in my first post that I don't have a problem with it. I'll go further now - I was in fact, privately educated! I was just trying to point out that, for me and many others, the difference between the two (aro...

Re: Emmanuel School...

Northcote - look, I don't have a chip on my shoulder. I do have manners. And I do find some of some of your comments (not understanding nuances blah blah) incredibly patronising. I'm not some ill-informed oik who thinks all public schools were created equal. I'm well aware of the how all the popular...

Re: Emmanuel School...

"To be even more blunt, if you do not have children in the Indy sector then a lot of the nuances of the different schools and their intakes will be lost on you. "

Patronising, much?

Re: Emmanuel School...

Northcote - first you stated that only the 'super bright - not top of the class bright' state children can break into the private sector at secondary level. In your second post, you concede that this is not actually at all the case (hard not to, given the facts Livegreen posted), and that actually, ...

Re: Emmanuel School...

Thanks Livegreen - you put it far more eloquently than me. Frankly, all this nonsense that is spouted about only 'super bright' state school kids to enter the private sector at secondary level is scaremongering, and extremely unhelpful to parents who are trying to make a balanced decision on what's ...

Re: Emmanuel School...

Northcote Luvvie - I am interested in your take on state/private going on to secondary. I would agree that an average kid going to a prep school has a much better chance, and an easier route, to the 'next step school, but I don't know about only 'super bright' state kids securing places. In the (ver...

Re: Any Holy Ghost parents?

And just to add - I have just received the new Ofsted report results (the school was inspected just before half-term) and it has been judged outstanding :D

Re: Any Holy Ghost parents?

It's a great school - the great teaching and the friendly, inclusive community make a fantastic environment for the children to learn and mature in. It seems to have a reputation for being hardcore, but actually follows the same RE curriculum any the other Catholic schools. As other posters have sai...

Re: Gazumping - can I live with myself

Um Supergirl I'm intrigued with your tale - you were a gazumper yourself, but thought that it was ok that you sent a note of apology via the estate agents? Yet when it happened to you, you were "absolutely disgusted", and then when the gazumpers came back, you felt that they had been "...
