Re: new cafe in Balham

Not exactly a fashionable recommendation, but I have found that in Balham the Moon Under Water Wetherspoon's caters to all my foddering and watering needs with quality, efficiency, courtesy and at extremely good value for money.

Re: SW London mum drives 4x4 at cyclist and crashes into sho

BFW's story about the 4x4 which might well have killed her child is, of course, extremely serious. Much as Julian the Tennis Coach and the Six Foot Redhead might mock the proposal that a certain type of person is drawn to drive a 4x4 and that person becomes even worse when at the wheel, not only is ...

Re: SW London mum drives 4x4 at cyclist and crashes into sho

In many ways I am precisely the sort of person the US auto industry is targeting in the design and marketing of their 4x4s. However, I don't drive at all nor do I think I could stand the sniggering ridicule from a large number of people who wonder whether it would not be a whole lot cheaper for 4x4 ...

Re: SW London mum drives 4x4 at cyclist and crashes into sho

Leaving aside the repartee, sixfootredhead, my research is not fabricated, as you say, but was undertaken by The New York Times' Keith Bradsher, based on interviews with senior figures in the US auto industry whose job it is to understand their customers. Here is a link to a full review in Washingto...

A six-foot redhead at the wheel of a 4x4: now I am frightened!

Re: SW London mum drives 4x4 at cyclist and crashes into sho

Not being a driver myself, I can be pious about this kind of thing. What I have noticed is the insidious psychological damage 4X4s inflict on their owners. Research in the US has shown that the average 4x4 owner is not, as the stereotype might suggest, some rugged, all-action he-man but rather a per...

Re: Restaurant for 12 people CJ or Balham - Recommendations

I would definitely recommend Bodean's in Balham at 225 Balham High Rd, London, SW17 7BG. It has a range of dining spaces outside and in, including a banqueting table that can comfortably seat 12. Its BBQ ribs, pulled pork and steaks are second to none, the cocktails are amazing, the craft ales and a...

Re: Calling all NV dog ownera

A large dog barking from your front window every time a cat ventures a paw on your premises should do the trick. Works round our place, front and back.

Failing that, lion poo from your garden centre is said to work. And so it should for what they charge. (I'm not kidding!)

Re: Calling all NV dog ownera

At least it would be clean! Though I am told by a former resident that tiny lizards skittering up your bedroom wall can be disconcerting. Me, I'd find it a turn-on.

Re: Calling all NV dog ownera

Petal, I made a suggestion, not a statement. Your English seemed to me striving to be idiomatic without being native. Maybe I am wrong and you are the Pearly Queen to my Pearly King and we can do the Lambeth Walk together. But, even as a dog-owner, I am not going to clean another dog's poo off your ...

Re: Calling all NV dog ownera

Hi Petal. I am not suggesting you have no right or only a second-class right to be a London citizen. I ventured only that your written English suggested to me that it might be your second language and therefore you may not have the nuanced understanding of the customs and spirit of someone like me, ...

Re: Calling all NV dog ownera

Dog-owner and parent here who once upon a time had neither a dog nor a child and was as irritated as anyone when stepping in dog poo or jangled by a wailing child. Today I am older and, if not wiser, more tolerant. In London most people while in public do their best to respect others with their char...

Re: Paypal fees for virtual assistants

I would change your agency. They are playing fast and loose with the law and basic truthfulness. You need to trust your agency, and I wouldn't trust yours to tell me the correct time.
