Re: Woman looked on in horror as her dog was mauled to death by 'American Bulldog' in Grafton Square

The American XL Bully needs to be put on the banned list pronto. There is only one reason people get a dog like this and that’s for perverse status and inevitably they fail to socialise it or train it properly.

Re: Should I pay school fees upfront - is there a benefit?

Sorry I didn’t see that you had asked a question so I’m sure you’ve already made a decision about what to do but just to say that my girls’ school does not offer a sibling discount and the discount for paying up front is very minimal - like 5%. You just ask the finance person at your school about it...

Re: Do parents locally pay uni fees or do students take loans?

There's also the psychological aspect of hoping/assuming they will take their education a little more seriously if they have to pay for it themselves (even if you 'help them' pay it back at the end so they are not overly burdened). I always thought I'd tell mine that I will pay for tuition etc., but...

Re: Should I pay school fees upfront - is there a benefit?

You always have to give an entire term's notice before withdrawing your child from a school and in this case, you would then get the remainder of your fees refunded so that part is not a risk. But when they raise tuition, as they will every year but especially now with inflation/energy, you will sti...

Re: Best dog food for puppies

You will get as many answers to this question as there are dog food brands. Technically, “complete” raw is the most nutritious and natural but can be a pain to feed. There is the cooked variety like Butternut Box which I believe is geared more to appeal to the human (dogs do not require meat to be c...

Re: resenting my step daughter

I was that 7 year old child and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt - she feels that resentment. Even if you try hard to hide it, kids perceive the most subtle feelings. And it is scarring for life. As others have said, you knew what you were getting into and even if it’s not how you thought ...

Battersea Babysitters

Anyone ever used a babysitting 'agency' called Battersea Babysitters? It's clearly not a big operation but then again doesn't charge a subscription fee etc., Been let down by our babysitter so need someone quite last minute.

Re: Female dogs on heat - please don't walk them on the Common!

Oh dear. People here are hugely anthropomorphising in their ‘feminist’ views of females in season being allowed the same freedom as males. The biological fact is that ‘in the wild’ an in-season female in contact with an intact male would without doubt become pregnant. It is instinct not bad behaviou...

Re: Traffic lights Clapham Common Westside

We met our local counsellor about it (we took him to the crossing on Clapham Common Northside where my daughter was almost hit). They brought in tfl and claimed to study the problem but nothing was ever done. Now my daughter walks alone and all the lights/crossings along Clapham Common Westside and ...

Re: Mayfield Gymnastics - worth the money?!

My daughter started at The Little Gym but I moved her to Mayfield (to save a little money!!). I was disappointed. This was quite a few years ago now but the coaches seemed really unenthusiastic. One day I was sitting beside a mum who heard her daughter crying and crying in there. She asked if she co...

Re: How can we fix the disgusting problem we have with dog poo EVERYWHERE?

Yes my own dog has ‘cleared up’ human excrement in Clapham Common only for me to have to clean it up from her during a later walk. Literally nothing more revolting. I agree that is a foul problem but there is FAR more dog crap than human/nappies. Besides, the streets are actually cleaned of that sor...

Re: How can we fix the disgusting problem we have with dog poo EVERYWHERE?

I completely agree and I’m a dog walker!! I have been sworn at for “letting people know” that they’ve missed picking up their dog’s poo. It’s a horrendous problem and yes, I assume it’s because they know they can get away with it. How they themselves desire to walk on streets with dog poo everywhere...

Re: Anyone given birth to a breech baby naturally?

I laboured at home until I was 6 cms dialated (as it turned out). When they checked me at the hospital, the baby was breech and no one had previously figured that out. The midwives urgently persuaded me to have a c-section. When I questioned how this could be considered so high risk (eg pretty norma...

Re: Puppy Care

I can recommend Billi Street who has looked after our dog on several occasions. She's lovely with puppies and runs a small dog walking and day care service. She's really conscientious (I've seen her in the park in the driving rain, taking no short cuts!) and priced very reasonably. Check out her web...

Re: Dog Boarding recommendation in SW11 area please

Hi, I am an experienced "Pet Nanny" in SW11. I am a stay-at-home mum with kids in school so the dogs I care for get two walks/runs in the Common every day when I do drop off and pick up and attention all day long. We also have a pretty decent-sized garden. What kind of dog is she and what ...
