Re: Petition - Let's make Tooting Bec Road safe for all!

Thanks Denwand for your constructive comments. On 20mph you mis-represent my views. I would like our council to consult borough wide on widespread 20mph limits with exceptions made for key routes. The evidence from elsewhere shows that this doesn't reduce journey times for drivers as you imply it wo...

Re: Petition - Let's make Tooting Bec Road safe for all!

Another good point. For what it's worth, I think if enough people support the petition linked in my original post then officers will have to look at all the side roads and the associated issues.

Re: Petition - Let's make Tooting Bec Road safe for all!

Hi Goldhawk, Fair point re: drivers jumping lights & speeding. I guess if we have proper cycle lanes then those of us who do cycle won't have to share the roads so frequently with those who are speeding etc. Narrower road widths have been shown to result in lower top speeds. First thing we need thou...

Petition - Let's make Tooting Bec Road safe for all!

Afternoon folks, I've recently set up this petition, you can add your name via this link: http://www.wandsworthlibdems.org.uk/let_s_make_tooting_bec_road_safe_for_all Here are some of the comments from the people supporting it: I agree – this road would work brilliantly with a cycle path. And so wor...

Re: Tooting Bec

Thank you Kate :D

Really appreciate you spreading the word. The more networks we reach the sooner we can hit the minimum number needed to get the council / TfL to act. I'm looking into what that number of signatures is at the moment.

Re: Tooting Bec

Tooting is amazing! In doing my little bit to try and make it even better, wonder if a few of you might be able to support this new petition that I'm running for Tooting Bec Road. We are only 12 signatures away from hitting the first 100 supporting the call to make Tooting Bec Road safe for all! Add...

Re: We always encourage kids to have Scooter & Bike Lights!

Having decent lights is always worthwhile. We could also do with better streets for cycling on. This new petition for Tooting Bec Road has just started, would be grateful if you & others would be able to support it. http://www.wandsworthlibdems.org.uk/let_s_make_tooting_bec_road_safe_for_all?recruit...

Re: Car lands on roof on Nightingale Lane, road closed

Back in May 2013 I wrote this post about Nightingale Lane. http://traffikintooting.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/nightingale-lane-start-of-positive-new.html The danger (in general on our roads) remains people driving irresponsibly. If we can design out risk where possible, and create a low risk street envi...

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

:) how about this then Mungomuffit, we meet up for a chat?

See if in conversation face to face we find we might agree on a few more points? Coffee sometime at Tooting Bec?

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

I'm the same Jon Irwin behind the Fishponds proposals. We've still got a problem there. I've noticed that a new petition for Beechcroft Road has been started on the Wandsworth Council website for the same problem. None of the members elected political parties to date has dared to actually try to sug...

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

Forgot to add, www.crashmap.co.uk allows you to view on a map the reported collisions. I believe there is another map out there somewhere, but this is the first one that comes to mind.

You can zoom in on Oxford Street or your local area and see details about the collisions.

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

OK fair enough Mungomuffit. To be fair, online forums are quite difficult to have a nuanced discussion, I don't believe you are (or many people are) a 'fundamentalist' for one way of travel or another. Here is the document for people hurt on London's roads in 2013: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/c...

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

Hi Mungomuffit, Sadly when you look into the numbers of people seriously injured or killed on our roads the numbers far outstrip those hurt from being stabbed or shot. No FOI request needed, the Department for Transport has statistics relating to death and serious injuries published annually. Relati...

Re: Pedestrianise Oxford Street - what do you think?

Thanks for the comments folks. You may have missed that the proposal for the interim (up to 2020) is to have a zero emissions shuttle bus running along Oxford Street. The other bus routes would be able to terminate/turn around at each end. Leaving aside the impact of air pollution on people who work...
