Re: Anyone else get harangued outside Northcote Library today?!

oh for heaven's sake, if you must bring the Belleville expansion into this ... the second site is not MILES away from Belleville, it is less than 1km away. (But then you think that Chestnut Grove is 500m from the Bolingbroke site...). There are so many "facts" and counter "facts" and assertions and ...

Re: Something smells...

Two things in response to your points about the academy catchment, and the perception of Belleville being part of some exclusive white middle class club... 1. If the Academy catchment was purely done on distance, then you would in the first instance be limiting places to those who live in Northcote ...

Re: Best to buy Christmas trees?

I see you've already got your tree CAC, but if anyone else is looking I got a lovely tree from Morganics on Eccles Rd (just off Lavender hill, opposite Asda) and they delivered too. It was £60 for 6 foot - I always thought £10 per foot was the standard so your Balham tree is a bit of a bargain ......

is anyone part of a proper carol singing group?

I would be interested in getting a carol singing group along to a party I'm having next week, in SW11. Is anyone out there part of a door-to-door group that sings and collects for charity by any chance? (This does not extend to those chancers who knock on your door, mumble out 2 out of tune lines of...

Re: Anyone else get harangued outside Northcote Library today?!

The thing is Laura, your group's Facebook page states: "Draw your own conclusions about why the affluent parents in this area are unwilling to support existing schools and are pushing to create their own..." Your group clearly assumes that everyone who lives in Northcote ward is affluent and pushy. ...

Re: Anyone else get harangued outside Northcote Library today?!

Laura - your co-protestor Jane E has already acknowledged that one of your group took things too far. I was not intimidated, I was angry that someone chose to block my path (when my 3yo was running ahead away from me), and saw fit to lecture me about the wealth of the area etc when I had simply step...

Re: Anyone else get harangued outside Northcote Library today?!

JaneE - thanks for the acknowledgement that some of your group's campaigning style was a bit OTT. Definitely something to bear in mind for the future! Just for the record, I agree that the York Gardens closure plan is an utter disgrace. The Council clearly thinks that all residents will be completel...

Good places to see Father Christmas

Can anyone recommend a good place in SW or Central London to take a 3 yr old to see Father Christmas please? Selfridges and Harrods grottoes look good but I don't want to end up going and queuing for hours, or not getting a ticket at all as that's pretty hard to explain to a three year old! (all the...

Anyone else get harangued outside Northcote Library today?!

Went into the library this morning (Sat) with my young son to change his books and to look at the ARK / NSC info on the new Academy. On the way out my path was blocked by a very aggressive campaigner from the anti-school group. She was actively stepping into my path as I tried to walk out. I put my ...

where's good for buying carpets please?

I'd like to buy locally but will go further afield if there are recommendations. Looking for decent but not overly expensive carpet (no point in spending too much with young children in the house!).

Any recommendations on price and service would be gratefully received.
Thanks!

Re: Local library closures

Thanks for this info SimpleSimonSays. The library consultation seems to be another instance of the Council putting up a "dodgy" set of ideas. Which is anyone going to vote for, close 6 libraries, or close 1?! This is no choice at all, and clearly a waste of time and money going to consultation on th...

Re: School Admissions Consultation - Belleville

yes but Monaco, the Belleville Governors didn't want this consultation at all ... the council has published a consultation to give the Forthbridge Rd residents another opportunity to have their say (albeit rather limited in terms of what's on offer). I think there would have been a lot more anger if...

Re: School Admissions Consultation - Belleville

besin, I think you are being disingenuous re motives of councillors, but up to you if you want to post libellous statements alleging corruption I guess. Can anyone who lives near Forthbridge say where their children go to school now, and why Wix is not considered to be a good option when it seems th...

Re: School Admissions Consultation - Belleville

besin, I think your post is bordering on libellous re your comments about a specific councillor. you may wish to edit the post accordingly. Whatever the outcome of the consultation, I do hope that people will be mature enough not to subject young children starting at their first school to a "confron...
