Re: Shellac removal

I had the same issue and now just take it off myself. Seems like a faff but actually quite easy and means you don't need to worry about booking an appointment or getting time to go to the salon. I just put a bit of cotton wool soaked in nail varnish remover on my nail, wrap it in foil, leave for 10 ...

Re: Clapham SW4 Nusery recommendations for 12 month old

I'd really recommend Baby Room Old Town. Both of my kids were there from younger than 12 months (still got one there). Both have loved it. It's small, nurturing and I've always got the feeling the staff really do care for the children. If you work, the bonus is it's a day care nursery so works well ...

Re: Prep school open days - can I bring my baby?

Absolutely take your baby. I was pregnant when looking round schools for my (then) 3 year old and most of the schools assumed I was looking round on behalf of the bump! The main thing is to make sure you register or are on any waiting list as soon as you can - you can then visit whenever you like kn...

Our lovely cleaner is available Thursday afternoons

Hi, Our cleaner Ela is amazing - a great cleaner, reliable and so lovely. She hasn't let us down in over 7 years. In fact she even turned up for us recently when her daughter had just gone into labour with her first grandchild - I didn't expect to see her that day but she came. She's also great with...

Face painting recommendation - great for parties

I just wanted to recommend Artycat Faces if you ever need face painting for parties/events/anything else. We hired Jenny for our DD's 4th birthday party instead of an entertainer (DD LOVES face painting) and she was brilliant. The kids (and the adults it turned out!) loved it. Jenny is really talent...

Re: Thomas's School - too late?

It's really frustrating isn't it! The same happened to me a few years ago and I found that when it came to Thomas's, the waiting list didn't really move at all. The registrar explained that they offer assessments to those on the waiting list only if a child of the same gender/birth month doesn't tak...

Re: Northcote House Nursery - Change in Ofsted rating

I have no knowledge of Northcote House but wanted to let you know about my positive experience with a nursery after an inadequate rating. My 2 kids go to a nursery that did have a 'good' Ofsted rating but earlier this year were rated inadequate. As with Northcote House by the sounds of it, the paren...

We have a Market Research business based in Clapham Old Town and would love to help a local start up - you could use our viewing facility for the focus groups free of charge. We can also help recruit people for you if you need too or facilitation/moderation of th...

Re: Parkgate vs. Newton Prep - how important is being local?

Thank you all so much for all your replies - it’s really useful to hear your experiences Hellokittyerw , having discussed it more this weekend, we’re also almost decided on Newton Prep. I think it’s an amazing school, with a great atmosphere and so many benefits, it’s just a shame about the location...

Parkgate vs. Newton Prep - how important is being local?

I’m looking for any advice anyone can offer on how important locality is when it comes to primary/prep schools. We’re in the process of choosing a reception place for DD (2017 entry) and have narrowed it down to Parkgate or Newton Prep. They’re very different schools I know, but we really love both ...
