Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin separate after 10 years

I have to say up front that I think any couple splitting is desperately sad and that the fact that there are children involved is even sadder. I'll say it again in case I haven't got that across: it's sad. Very sad. But... I've always found Gwyneth Paltrow so "holier than thou". She's always seems t...

Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

I know of one family that took their daughter OUT of a private school and sent her state so they could send their son to board. They could just afford two sets of day school fees but the boarding fees were too much of a stretch. I can imagine that sets the scene for some pretty heavy sibling resentm...

Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

Interesting replies R2P and MM. To be clear I'm not saying that its wrong for mums to stay at home. I'm just increasingly worried that we are raising girls who don't see a career as the norm. To continue the logic, I guess you can both afford to give up work because you entered high paying professio...

Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

Hi One of the problems with this sort of discussion is that we all have our own (naturally different) views on the situation. That is only to be expected as we're all in different situations. 1. of course I am not saying that only SAHM have children that go to private school. that would be silly 2. ...

Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

I'm not saying that, its a choice and people are free to make any choice they want/can. However what I am concerned about is if we are raising girls who expect a hubby to earn 200k plus a year and "keep them" whilst they don't work? That is a lot of baggage to give a daughter bearing in mind we live...

Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

Some interesting comments. When I originally wrote this post I deliberately did not use the word "better" for private education, I used the word "different". I personally, and I can only speak personally, believe smaller class sizes, more teachers (one prep school I know has a teacher AND one full t...
