Re: What age to go to Chessington from Clapham unacompanied

Mitcham common is pretty and seemed very safe and ordinary. Lots of families and joggers etc- probably safer than Wandsworth or Lambeth! 😂

Re: What age to go to Chessington from Clapham unacompanied

There is a fun fair on Mitcham Common, £15 wristband for unlimited rides in a closed space and £5 for any bystanders. Seemed very well run and safe I would say for 12 year olds it would be perfect on their own in daytime. Couldn't tell you the exact location as I met a friend there, about 8 minutes ...

Re: Local Gym Recommendations

Does the female only gym in Earslfield work for you? I would've liked it but not convenient for me. ( I'm sorry I've forgotten its name)
I'm a member of the leisure centre which covers Balham, Tooting, Latchmere and Puntey and it suits me as I swim.

Re: Why can't my children go to a Catholic school of the council fund them?

"On your knees, avoid the fees" for C of E and Catholic schools. Has been this way since state schools started and to a non Brit it is totally weird.

Re: Wandsworth Bridge closes for 10 weeks of repairs

I have caught the overground train to Imperial Wharf ( 1 stop from CJ) and there are lots of buses heading to many areas and also plenty of hire bikes: human forest and Santander.

Re: In-laws never offer to have the children

I totally get that grandparents don't want to help but being waited on when they visit as well as deciding when they visit when you have small children isn't feasible either. It took me a while to break that expectation. It cuts both ways- so do be more firm on your expectations and on do things on ...

Re: In-laws never offer to have the children

It is often in laws of the mother grandparents that don't like to help and have "done their bit". I do wonder why that is. A little goes a long way to ease the pressure for working parents and they know that. I wouldn't bother getting upset about it. The toddler phase which is exhausting w...

Re: Your guide to Open House in Wandsworth

Open House has always been in September.
This old post was bumped.

Does anyone know what is happening with Artists' Open House? The council seems to be handing it over to make it independent?

Re: Is having a 'bump' o a class night out usual?

I'm surprised a group of parents did this on a mums night out. People I know who do it are sure to do it within closed circles, but yes it is very common among those who are childless and who have children. I wouldn't report it if I were you but distance yourself. I do because these people bore me w...

Re: Is it time to ban 4x4s?

Would that Land Rover hav e caused as much destruction had it been regular car? Possibly not. I read the driver had a seizure of some sort so wasn't driving dangerously. But those SUVs are like tanks. Also agree, being parked beside one in a car park leaves no room to get out. And our roads are far ...

Re: Parents not paying for end of year present?

A good idea is for the rep to take an amount ( in our school it was £50) at the start of the year to cover teachers presents and support staff for Christmas and end of term. This would mainly go to the form tutor but there were also gifts for all subject staff. I'm pretty sure not all people contrib...

Re: Is having a 'bump' o a class night out usual?

The UK has the highest cocaine use in all of Europe. It is totally normalised among "respectable" people and those includes Politicians and Police. So no don't bother. Cocaine users are bores and I've naturally drifted away from people who continue to do it. Yes it ruins lives of people fr...

Re: Is it time to ban 4x4s?

Since this awful tragedy in Wimbledon I can't help looking at these huge cars as dangerous objects. I'm not sure they can be banned but really people should think twice about buying these oversized vehicles.
I also feel uneasy about sports cars as they also look difficult to control.
