Re: Rough sleepers hub and hostel opposite Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill

As expected the virtue signallers have emerged to pontificate about caring and how objectors are being selfish and ignorant. The data is clear - there WILL be an increase in a lawlessness and antisocial behaviour and there will be a negative impact on the community (even the council is planning for...

Re: Husband won't wear helmet on electric bike

Cycle helmets are not a panacea for accidents.  Just have a look at some bike crashes on by pro cyclists.  However, they do offer a lot more protection than not wearing one.  I cycle a lot and my 5 mins commute to the tennis course is a slow one with all the junctions, barely 10mph and I invariably ...

Re: Rough sleepers hub and hostel opposite Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill

I don't think there's any more risk to anyone by the simple classification of someone being "homeless".  There are plenty of reasons why that situation has occurred and mental health and dependency issues would be obvious reasons.  However, declaring that they are all then a "threat&q...

Re: Cycling: How does London compare to other European cities?

Amsterdam is often quoted as cycling's Utopia but it's very different really.  Quick search reveals -  Amsterdam is only an eighth of the size of London, so the average commutes are much shorter than London.  If the segregated system you propose is similar to what's in existence, I can only express ...

Re: Husband becoming a politics bore and its getting embarrassing

Tricky in a social setting, but it beats house prices, how tall my child is etc etc.  I think we need more reasoned political debate, even if it is passionate, not less.

Re: Cycling: How does London compare to other European cities?

The cycling superhighways are really good and money should be spent on them and their maintenance.  What I don't understand as a cyclist, is the huge expense of completely separating cyclists and vehicles. The design invariably takes up too much space from all users, creating a poor and often danger...

Re: Caudalie is closing - sad news for Northcote road

Don't forget Paperchase, All Bar One, the pet shop, Keihl's and The Paint House Julian - tough times ahead I suspect.  Oh, and a window shop that doesn't seem to want to move in!! Apparently they want £300k a year in rent for All Bar One.  Add that to £150k in rates and I suspect that it will sit e...

Re: Caudalie is closing - sad news for Northcote road

Yep, Northcote Gallery gone, pet shop soon.  Shame really but what can you do?  Tough times.  Maybe it's worth paying a little extra to keep the road vibrant, rather than checking things out then buying them online?
