Re: should your child be learning to read at a few weeks old

I didn't read it either but if her son does get into Yale it will be worth it, he can buy her a nice warm vest as in that outfit it looks like she might catch a cold!

Re: Moving to the area - school anguish

Hi,
I too have heard that Holy Ghost is a lovely school but is small so has a tiny intake of kids. St Mary's is near Clapham Common tube station but if you're in the Abbeville Road area near Clapham South then it is not too far a walk - a catholic school with good feedback

Re: Moving to the area - school anguish

Clapham South? Come to Bonneville Primary School! :D
If you're after private, there's a good few in the area too.
Good luck, it will all work out!

Re: Help present ideas for impossible mother!

This will be of no help....we once bought my mil an oxfam voucher of a goat for a village - she was apoplectic!
She kept going on about how we bought her 'A GOAT???, I mean a goat!' (her words)  I had a sneaky laugh at that one.
Ever since then we've given theatre vouchers!

Re: A step too far!?

Many moons ago, before children and marriage I used to work with this lady who often dispensed advice on family life - one anecdote was that everytime she got a new au pair she took her on a little circuit of Golders Green: 1st stop language school, 2nd stop GP, 3rd stop family planning clinic. I wa...

Re: Honeywell or Belleville??

Do you know I didn't think it was possible to be in the catchment for both - given that the area is so miniscule.
Sometimes you have to think 'is this on my way to work' (or similar type logistic questions), I'd go on gut feeling after some visits if I were you Itchyfeet. :)

Re: Schools reception 2014 uurggh!

My son is at Bonneville and we chose it based on our visit rather than the Ofsted report. It seems that the latter is based on SATS results - my friend is a teacher elsewhere in Lambeth and she said that when Ofsted visit the main thing they harp on about is the results and she feels this has a dire...

Re: Soft Play for Under 4's clapham common

Sounds good, where abouts in Clapham Common? You'd need quite a big venue.

Re: Help - ideas for party for 11 year old boy? Please!

Hi we had a 'scientist' party last year when my son was 10. A 'scientist' in a white coat turns up and does very accessible experiments - the kids get to make 'flubber' a rubbery goo thing and she did the rocket thing with cola and mentos. They all really enjoyed it. Entertainment with a bit of hand...

Re: Son's Bike STOLEN From the Front of Our BTC Flat Today

Hurrah for your friend's husband Battersea Mummy! I read an article in the Independent about bike theft/resales. Like JTC the writer's bike was very distinctive. He went to Brick Lane where bikes are often sold - found his bike, punched the seller!! and promptly rode off on his bike! Although it all...

Re: Advice on tricky 8 year old boy!

Crikey - I thought I'd written this post in my sleep and forgotten it was me! That is so similar to our life...
We've done a couple of things to try and sort it, and are currently trying out something else with the school. It's too complicated for site postings, email me if you want to talk.

Re: Some Dog Owners Grrrr!?!?

We were walking to the dog-free area once, only to come across a lady inside playing 'fetch' with a HUGE, energetic and scary-looking dog. My husband called over the fence that she was in the dog-free zone and she told him that she couldn't exercise the dog on the main common as she couldn't control...

Re: Book club

Hi I go to a bookclub in the Abbeville Area and new members are welcome. We don't meet in the day if that's what you're looking for - it's an evening thing - often a welcome break from my kids! The venue is rotated amongst members' homes. The book we're discussing tonight is 'Pure', by Andrew Miller...
