Re: Recommendation for bespoke diamond jewellery designer

My engagement ring came from Hirsh and I know the designer who has since left them. She was with them for years and very much involved with bespoke designs. I will check if she is interested in private commissions and provide you with some contact details by private message if she is (or public mess...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

I can't give you an estimate of level of churn to other local prep schools myself since I don't know of any. Maybe someone else can or maybe it can be pieced together from various posters experience. I can tell you specifically from my experience that in each school year my son has been in there has...

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

And I recall a former head boy at Thomas's saying he moved from Broomwood. Some movement will occur between schools I'm sure but I don't think there's a lot of children leaving Thomas's for local schools - not from what I have seen anyway.

Re: Thomas's Clapham, Streatham and Clapham Prep offers

As a current Thomas's parent (and have been for a few years now) I feel I must say something on this thread because the speculation is getting a bit out of hand! For starters, if 'managing out' of children was commonplace I think it would be a hot topic amongst parents in the school and it isn't. Of...

Do breastfed toddlers resist or recover from illness more easily?

I am still breastfeeding my 1.5 year old and I am wondering whether to keep it up until next Spring to help reduce the number of illnesses they get or their severity. They are in day care nursery part time so are exposed to lots of illnesses. I wondered though if it really makes much difference to h...

Re: Heathrow and wandsworth

One of my worries about planes flying over London was the risk of an accident. That nearly happened recently.

Re: Heathrow and wandsworth

Immediately next to Heathrow is the M25 and the M4 so there is likely to be a spike of traffic pollution from these roads in that area, especially where one meets the other. It's a particularly busy road junction. However, I was thinking more of the impact of the planes flying overhead across London...

Re: Heathrow and wandsworth

Obviously there are some strongly held views on both sides of this. I definitely do live on the flight path and having checked I have seen the routes the flights take and they do fly over where I live. I could see that when I researched the flight routes taken and I can see the planes when I look up...

Re: Heathrow and wandsworth

Here are some of my reasons for being opposed to another runway at Heathrow. Firstly, addressing the claim that the noise was there when people moved in so why complain? My understanding is that the flight patterns were changed a number of years ago so that planes fly low over much of London, coming...

Re: Broomwood rejection

PS, MrsOctober has made a good point about the fact that parents can hang on to a place where they have paid the deposit until the contract requires further payments. Given there is no incentive the reliquish the place sooner it is understandable that some parents will simply keep their options open...

Re: Broomwood rejection

Is there a big difference between Broomwood and Eaton house in your eyes? If not I would go with Eaton House. For me a big difference would be something such as Broomwood being a really short journey to/from home whereas Eaton House being a long trek. If it is just the ethos of the school/general im...

Re: Has Thomas's Clapham changed?

Papinian, that anecdote might be true (who knows) but I doubt it was meant to indicate that the child in question's knowledge of sculpture at age 3 wasn't good enough to deserve a place! I doubt my child's knowledge of scupture is that good now in year 4 (I haven't tested them).

Re: Has Thomas's Clapham changed?

I have a child in year 4 who has been there since reception. I haven"t found the school to be unduly pushy up to this stage. I believe things get a bit more 'serious' by year 5 but this is as much (if not more) about the parents starting to think about the next schools. I have found the school ...

Re: Bridesmaid dress alterations

Years ago I went to 'Designer Alterations' in Battersea (close to Queenstown Road station) to get my bridesmaids' dresses altered. They measured up with them in the dresses, advised on appropriate length etc. The company now seems to be called 'Design and Alter'.
