Postby gossipgirl » Mon Aug 12, 2019 1:38 pm

Thank you for posting this. An inspiring piece for those who have family members with dementiaI. I am sure that they will be missed by their neighbours.

I agree, thanks gossipgirl (love the name!). In our fast paced world it's lovely to know that there are many who have cherished their family home for 50 years.

Such a shame - it's a beautiful sprawling substantial house and gardens that must have been a dream home to raise their children when they moved in in the '70s (?) .

Such a unique house would be hard to move on from in any circumstances let alone because of the tragedy of dementia - impossible to replace and devastating to downsize from - so many memories.

My husband was lucky enough to meet Prunella Scales professionally  before her illness, what an unaffected and  incredibly nice and friendly lady!

When she found out that we also lived in Wandsworth too she said "You must come round for tea, and bring the family"....Sadly we were too embarrassed to take her up on her kind offer!

What a difficult decision to have to make when she seems to be happiest in her home.

Luckily, this isn’t actually the case. Words were taken out of context in an interview, as is often the case with the press. I should know - I am his granddaughter and my family live in their basement!

notsogoldilocks:  I'm so pleased you have posted that, thank you.  I read the whole of the original interview, and very nearly posted that the version in the Daily Hate didn't seem accurate.  I really truly hope that your grandmother lives out her life in the the environment with which she is familiar, surrounded by people she loves and who obviously love her.

I don't know why anyone reads these tabloid rags.

Thank you for your kind words. I agree that, when it comes to dementia, moving someone away from what they know and love would surely make things worse for them.
